Ashtons or Macanudos would be great for a wedding. Ask the shop keep for some lighter recommendations for the party. Portofinos on the Macs are nice.

I'll second Rocky Patel as being a great smoke.

Something different would be Camacho Pre '63 blended filler. Some of the filler supposedly comes from pre '63 cuban stock. I had serious doubts at first, but now I want a box of them. Very smooth. I haven't seen them in a while, but they were running around 9-20$ a pop.

oh, actually, i retract all my advice.

you should do the right thing and tell your buddy not to get married.

If you're not a regular smoker, I'd go with a smooth cigar. As far as smooth goes, you can't beat La Aurora. The La Aurora Preferido with the Cameroon wrapper is probably the smoothest cigar you can get outside of Cuba in the $10 range. The La Aurora Natural is also good. I also keep Arturo Fuente Hemmingways on hand for visitors who don't smoke regularly. It's sort of my house cigar. It's relatively mild without too much nicotine in it. The Hemmingway comes in its regular size and in a Short Story size. And the Hemmingway is a little easier for a rookie to light since it comes to a point at the end you light. Those should all be in your price range. But make sure to get the recommendation of the shop worker. They probably spend more time with cigars than everyone on this forum combined.

If you don't smoke your cigars the day you get them, the day before you do smoke them, wrap the cigars in a dry paper towel and put them in a ziplock with a slice or two of apple (NOT wrapped up with the cigar). The apple will control the moisture without imparting any off flavors. That will keep them from drying out.

lots of good advice, I would take what's suggested above, and ask. The shop owners like it. and I would get a variety.
you want mild
nothing too spicy
and I would get a Shorty, a non smoker does not typically finish the full size brother, and I have never been to a reception where there was time to sit and smoke...

and from "the guy" who married first, before all his friends... DON"T TELL THE BRIDE... one way to get his *** kicked is to reek of cigar at the ceremony or night of the wedding.

Google "puro express" and pick up a box of the Flor de Cano Petit Coronas. They run $60 for a box of 25 and their awesome smokes. Everyone that I've fed them to has enjoyed them even if they're not cigar people.

i prefer the cuban Guantanameras, and the julietas, but i tried a makers mark cigar at a wedding. hands down I highly recommend it, especially for a newbie cigar smoker, plus it's only about $11.... trust me on this one... Makers mark. Plus the tube has a wax seal on it and looks like it could be a $40 cigar... You'll have a great cheap smoke, and people will ask about it.

... and when you smoke, remember 1 puff a minute, you don't want to overload your pallate (sp).

would it be wise to let the shop owner know we will be drinking while we smoke? We are all scotch drinkers, will he look at me like an idiot or find that nugget of information useful?

Ashton VSG line is a good smoke and carried at many places. If you can find it, Ghurka has one that has the red wax on top of the case. It is infused with Makers Mark, but still a 'real' cigar.
