Just cater it to the teacher. If its due tommorow don't try to do something revolutionary or overly insightful, just write something that you know the teacher will take a liking to (but not necesarily agree with). If they are a bleeding heart type write about animals, if they are the type that expects you to question and clash with their beliefs pick something that you know will be a wedge issue between you two, if they are a blind partisan pick something that they will look upon favorably (meaning something on the party website).

I'm guessing this is high school and getting grades in high school is more about manipulating the system than anything else.

Since its the night before and you haven't done any previous research (so you're looking for quick info/easy topic...) i'd do something relating to politics that has abundant amounts of information. It's unfortunate you probably don't have access to the Gale Group Website because they have a GREAT RESOURCE CENTER with an opposing viewpoints section that is basically a ton of articles on a topic in regard to people who agree or disagree with it.

Edit: I had an idea about maybe writing about the rising fuel costs, why it occurs/is occuring, what can be done, and its effects....

That may be a good topic. No two economists can even agree on the situation, so it really wouldn't matter what you write as long as it sounds intelligent
