I discovered beans and rice.

A few days ago I cooked up some red beans and rice and now I'm hooked. I had read before that it makes a perfect protein food together, but didn't think it would taste very good.

I was wrong, a little minced onion and chili powder, and a spoon full of salsa pan fried in a spoonful of olive oil is awesome.

How could I have been missing out on this easy and awesome lunch.

My mom is from New Orleans, I grew up on red beans and rice. I even like Zatarains(black beans and red) and have the boys at the fire house hooked on it. Grilled chicken and Zatarains goes good.

WTF are you folks talkin' about? Red beans and rice is a staple and you should have been eating them all your life. I have never heard of such. That is like saying you just discovered how awesome it is to eat with a new found invention called a fork.

Yankees don't get beans and rice. I have never even seen it in a diner.

We have pancakes and syrup, homefries and hash, and white gravy and potatoes. But no beans and rice, I'll do my best to convert people I know though.

Well if you are ever down my way let me know. I'll make you a pot of sho-nuff beans and rice. Sweet onion, LA Andouille sausage and some skillet cornbread to mop up the dregs.

You will then go home, pack your bags and slap your boss in the face.

Sausage you say? Most of my relatives down there have passed, I've been buying sausage down there and stocking my freezer, since I can remember, but don't see me going back now. I have a craving for some LA sausage and I've found some websites that sell the stuff. Can't wait.
