Hybrid cars are a danger to society!

Hybrid Cars may mow down unsuspending pedestrians!

That was a good and timely article. I never thought about that aspect before... we need to ban Hybrid Cars until this issue is resolved!

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

i could see how it would be hard to hear one, especially if theres a lot of traffic, and they only here the loud engines of other cars

but, of course, there are some cars that arent hybrids that are that quite...like toyotas and hondas...when my step dad had his Camry, he got it brand new with the v-6, and he had to touch it to see if it was running while standing outside bc it was so quiet

And people always said that 'loud pipes save lives' on a Harley was untrue. So loud pipes save not only the rider but the pedestrians that need to get out of the way too!

Totally agree.

I will say that I commute to work on a two-lane road on my bicycle. There is a dude who drives a hybrid, and when he passes me, it scares the crap out of me every morning. That thing is silent. Doesn't help that I have my iPod on. But I can hear every other car long before they pass me.

That said, it's my job to be in the bike lane out of his way. It's his job to be in his lane out of my way. No worries.

If I was blind and trying to cross a street, that's a whole different issue. I don't think I'd rely on sound alone to cross a street if I was blind. If I can't hear a car coming, that doesn't mean that there isn't one coming really fast that's just out of earshot. I'd go to a light to cross a street if I was blind, and wait for the chirp, chirp, chirp...might just be me.

Its the drivers responsibility to control his car properly, its also the pedestrains responsibility to cross at desgineted areas

however, a jaywalking pedestrian does not give the driver a license to kill..

...what they need to ban is stupidity

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

The article is referring to people are hard of hearing and are unable to hear these vehicles until it is too late.

I think we need to mandate all hybrids be retro fit with V-8 diesels running short pipes! It's for the kids!
