How JF got me out of a speeding ticket.

I went into court today to argue a speeding ticket that was issued to me in March... (among other things presented) it "helped" to show reasonable doubt due to a thread I started about a misfiring sparkplug the day before I was pulled over.

The thread help to show how I was concerned about the wellbeing of the vehicle which would only get worse with high RPM (which was why I was avoiding the highways and got nabbed on some back road) negating the idea that I would have been going the speeds accused of up an incline.

I was honest, I told the judge that though I was most likely i was going over the speed limit I argued that there was no way it was by as much as I was being accused of (which is all that matters)

Among other things (including being in the Army [he knew before I got there, I didn't play the card]) it was enough for the judge to let me off with a warning.

Anyway, I dont mean to start a cop basking fest, I'd just thought I'd share a cool story that happened to me today.

So they're on my today boys.

I got a ticket reduced once because I went and had my speedo read and had the papers certifying that it was 7mph at the speed he "clocked" me at... dropped a 21 over down to a 14 over and didnt go on my insurance! paid the $160 ticket and was out the door!

I hope you don't start a cop basking fest too. Most of them are ugly enough with their shirts on!

Just an FYI, tickets don't go on your insurance unless the insurance company does a driving record check. The do this sometimes randomly (like if you fall into the suspected profile to speed) or if you get into an accident. I have a ticket that is almost on is almost three years old that just got put on my insurance last month because I got into an accident.

My father sells insurance so I've figured out some of the nuts and bolts of insurance business.

When I sold insurance, we had two lines....even though it wasn't spoken. The preferred line never did driving checks. The other line did a check every 6 months.

Just got a $103 ticket for no seatbelt. I know, stupid. But in MN you dont need to wear a helmet or a seatbelt on a motorcycle. Cop had me and 6 others pulled over. It was a sting with 2 cops on bikes and 4 unmarked cars. So as I sat a motorcycle went by.

So are you seriously trying to say that it's BS that you got a seat belt ticket (in an automobile) because (it's not fair) motorcycles don't have seatbelts??????????????????????????????

It was just much better then I thought it was going to be, I've heard plenty of honor stories so maybe I got lucky.

They made me wait a while but to throw away a ticket that would have cost me over a thousand bucks in insurance + points for the next seven years.. would have waited even longer.

Just glad its over with.

Haha, i went in there talking all this mumbo jumbo about making sure his stuff was all calibrated and whatnot, the judge basicly told me to shut up and tell him what happend first... i was nervous, first time I've ever gotten a ticket.

Its new, but not that an unusual of a law. No seatbelt has been a primary offence for at least five years.

In a motorcycle, you don't fly though a wind shield and hit the steering wheel and dash board on the way out. Personally, I think its fair motorcycles have more lax laws, there are far more economical, and far less environmental damaging.

new in MN, but old to CA by oh, say, 15 years. It's common sense.

And motorcycles don't have airbags, crumple zones, or any other safety features you can take advantage of in a car by staying in the car. The only thing staying on your bike in the event of an accident would do is get you more hurt when it lands on you.

Yeah, I know you do not have to wear a seatbelt on a motorcycle. I think Post #7 assumes you have to wear a seatbelt on a bike.
