How fast is too fast for a Wrangler in four-wheel drive?

You're on the highway in crappy weather. You don't feel comfortable in two-wheel. How fast would you go in four-wheel?

In snow with an ice base layer, 25 tops since its so curvy out here. I wouldnt go over that anywhere really though, if the weather is bad enough to have to lock her in then nobody should be in a hurry. But in not so bad weather I have gone faster in 4wd just to lock it in an run it for a while. i would say 45ish tops if its just a precautionary measure.

The fastest you should be traveling while 4 wheel drive is engaged is 45 MPH. The Owners Manual for any Jeep Wrangler will back me up on this.

But is that a limitation of the drive train or of how the vehicle can safely be handled with all four wheels driving it?

In other words, will exceeding that risk grenading the t-case or flipping the Jeep?

To tell you the truth, I don't know. Running in 4-wheel drive at high speeds runs the risk of a lot of damage. You could always try and let us know how it ends .

That is the case with the 242, no doubt... And presumably the 231 as well, I would think.

My grandpa told me numerous times that you can't go over 55 mph, and hes put nearly 300,000 miles of driving in jeeps throughout his life. I trust him. And ive driven at 55 a few times and it seems fine.

The 242 says it can be engaged up to 55mph. I've used it around 60mph in Full Time mode because there were wet then patchy spots I had to slow down for. I'm sure i've done worse to my TC than that...

If you can go 40mph and still need to be in 4h, then you should just slow the eff down and go in 2h before you kill someone.

I tried that, but when I reached 88mph, I went back in time.
