How do you entertain yourself @ the gym?

I've been toying with the idea of joining a gym. I've found too much free time on my day off and have too little to do. Even though I'm still in decent shape from the warmer months, I've gotten really lazy over the winter. So I might as well find something to consume my time. But I'm afraid that I'll sign-up and just stop going cause I get bored. All of my friends are lazy and work regular hours, so they're out.

So what do you do at the gym to keep you entertained? I've got the MP3 player to listen to, but other than that I don't think I have enough of a stimulus. Maybe bring greasy cheeseburgers and eat? I seem to do that when I'm really bored. Heh.

Oh yeah, I know there's girls to look at, but it's only fun til you get caught.

My idea of a workout has always been a good bike ride or a day of physical labor. Something that has to be done.

I always take my iPod for personal entertainment, but if you're asking how to keep from getting bored with the workout, I find that variety keeps me interested. I don't do the same routine repetitively. I'll mix up free weights with the other weight machines, alternate between the cardio equipment, and throw in a class once in a while. I figure if I'm going to be paying for it, I may as well use all of it!

I take my iPod with the hardest stuff I can find. I had a video iPod for awhile and would watch some nature channel stuff. I just have to get a feeling im going somewhere when im on the bike. I get so bored just pedaling not going anywhere.

Better yet, get on a treadmill next to the "bouncy" girl and have an up-close view.

The gym I recently joined has lots of TV's that you can plug your headset into and listen while you are working out on the bikes, treadmills or etc..... When I am working on the weight machines, I just use my Ipod. I used to hate any kind of physical exercise, but I have really started to enjoy it since I have been going.

I run at the firehouse by my lonesome. We have an enormous flatscreen TV with a swivel wall mount. I tried an mp3 player but it just distracts me. When I run with the TV on I kind of just look at it to keep my mind off the running and slightly keep myself entertained. I find that messing with headphone wires and finding a place to put an iPod is more of a pain in the *** than anything else.

When I ride my bike (out in the real world, not at a gym), I just clip my mp3 player to my front pocket and run the headphones under my shirt so the wires don't get caught on stuff....

I despise aerobic work at the gym, so I never go, however today I finally got my *** out on my real bike and rode 16 miles at lunchtime

... considering I haven't ridden properly in probably 2 months I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack.

If I have to work out at the gym (say it's too late in the day or it's pissing it down with rain), I use the Expresso fitness bikes which have a little computery thingy built in and a video screen so it feels like you're actually riding.

Still gets pretty bloody boring though.

Reverse is also true at the gym too. I get on the elliptical machine/treadmill and watch the guys lifting weights on the other side of the room. Mmmm, muscles.

I use the elliptical machine between 2 TV's. One is on Fox News and the other is on the Communist News Network. I enjoy seeing the exact same story with polar opposite interpretations. Hey, it gives me inspiration to keep going. I am up to 45 minutes!
