A simple solution that should satisfy most of the posters on this thread.
Lets bring home all of our military , close the ports and reasign our troops to boarder patrol . There should be enough of them to cover the whole border so we won't have to put up fences along the northern and southern borders of this country, and we can all just enjoy our thriving economy.

How many UN Security Council resolutions were passed, but NOT acted upon before we went into Iraq ? The same pattern is emerging with dealing with Iran. I suppose when Iran nukes Israel it will be Bush's fault for allowing Iran to have neuclear weapons?
DPW offloads our military equipment in ports around the world so we can do what needs to be done, weather it's fight war or provide humanitarian aid to poor countries, even Muslim countries .

Regarding the post regarding the USCG regs, there are also regs regarding CBP's responsibility of securing the nation's borders. That doesn't mean it's happening. USCG and CBP have been hamstrung in doing there jobs because of brilliant people like Chertoff and Ridge. Hell, FEMA is responsible for disaster relieve - would you rely on them for assistance this coming 'cane season?

The fact of the matter is that Americans are smart enough to see through the governmental B.S. that both parties are feeding us - that's why this deal was/is getting killed. This was just common sense stupid for most Americans. If there's one thing Katrina taught us was that you better not (and never should have) counted on the government for anything. The people who did best in NOLA were those who disregarded government statements - state, local and feds - got there stuff together, including guns if necessary, and stood their ground.

I expected a lot more from GW - his Post 911 attitude was great - but he's rapidly becoming the Republican version of Jimmy C - who without a doubt was the WORST president in modern history.

Aww, c'mon guy, your last statement was a stretch. I never said anything anti-Arab. You're like the folks who imply it's bigoted or racist that the U.S. should stop illegal immigration on the southern border. It's all about sovereignty and national security. I don't think China should have any control or ownership in our ports, not because they are Asian - it's because I we shouldn't trust a communist country to control our ports.
