hey guys so i have been thinking about buying a bike thinking about an 06 R6 or newer but not too new because i dont wanna spend too much... but 06 is as old as id go...
reason for wanting one is because my MPG on my rig is at about 12 now and still want to lift more and go bigger tires but i need something economic so i need a bike...
does anyone know of anyone selling one or somewhere that sells them like an online site besides ebay because i dont wanna chance going through ebay... i have looked in town and they are 7gs in town i only plan on spending 5gs cash at the most... i tried financing to start my credit sine im only 18 but didnt work... i had my dad co-sign and declined because they said that his business makes just enought to pay his bills and have a little extra but not enough then my mom co-signed and still declined she has good credit and all, both my parents do and i have a steady job and the banks dont understand that.... so i only have 5gs to spend...
i looked everywhere i could find to look at and gave up and came here maybe you guys know somewhere to look???

18 + R6 = bad idea. How is spending 5k on a bike which will also have it's expenses: insurance, maint. etc, helping you save money for a lift and bigger tires?

Have you checked how much your insurance will be on a crotch rocket at 18 years old?

He makes a valid point. If you want to save some money why not pick up a $2k bike and use that while you are working on your jeep?
Steady job or not it is a good thing to hang on to as much of your money as you can. Start an IRA or something. I wish I started one, now I'm 5 years behind and I can't start one through work until next season.

Yeah check insurance for sure... DO NOT USE GEICO! They were going to charge me $4,382 dollars a YEAR! I have diff full coverage and it is 900 a year. Still high but you have to pay to play.
Have you ever ridden a bike? I'm not talking about sitting on your buddies busa or anything I mean actually riding? A 600 supersport is a monster. I don't care what anyone says. They are a force to be reckoned with. A 600 is NOT something you want to commute with. You will have to keep it in 1st or second gear, anytime you roll off the throttle its will come to an almost stop, unless you are familiar with riding then trying to accelerate easily in traffic is troublesome... They are amazing machines and I love mine, but if I lived in a big city or with alot of traffic I would look for something else first.
If I was in your shoes I would pick up a new 09 model Ninja 250. Sporty look, cheap on insurance, handle great, great for commuting, and unless you plan on paying cash then the interest rate is much cheaper new. I think its around 10 percent if you don't pay cash and buy used.

What bike??
When I was 20 and stationed in Ft.Bliss, I was looking at a Katana 750 for my first bike.
I called a few insurnace companies and was looking at 4-digits a year. I asked about a Suzuki Marauder (street bike/cruiser) and it was a fraction of that.
I asked them all what the difference was, since it was the same CC and they all pretty much said "we base the rate off of how much faster you'll likely get killed".

get yourself a 250 ninja if you want economy. 70mpg and you wont find yourself ripping through the gears. i got my bike for my commute also but i got it and i can control myself.

yep 18 and an r6 EEKK!!! i was quoted 4500 a year until i hit the magic 25!! i finally bought a YZF600R, its the "little brother" of the r6. its more comfortable, easier to ride, almost as fast as the R6, and get better milage. not to mention its cheaper by about 1k on average. they stopped making them in 07 so youll only find used, but look it up, it is really a nice bike unless you plan on racing on a track. oh and its considered a "sport tourer" for ins. purposes, so that will help a bit in that department!!

It was only a dual sport XT350. Not nearly as big as most street bikes. That's probably why it was so cheap.
Great fun offroad though, then I could just drive home with no problems.

That sounds about right.
I now remember that they told me anything 499cc and under would be charged completely different.
Probably is that I was 6'2" 200+lbs and looked ridiculous on anything smaller than a 750.
I didn't think about that, OP. If you aren't a ginormous guy, do like cherojeep said and get something smaller to get used to it first. Call around, but I bet, if you are dealing with 250-500cc range, it's less than a friggin' 750-1000cc. Especially for a beginner.

i have liability basic coverage..20 years old on a 06 cbr600rr and its only a little over $200 a year and thats even with having 2 speeding tickets on record...if its stolen or wrecked its my fault..but a full coverage quote was right around $1000 which is outrageous to pay a year

If you don't have dirt experience, go get it first- wreck a dirtbike and you have to buy a new lever and dust yourself off. wreck a streetbike and you have to buy a new bike and go get road rash scrubbed out- if you're lucky. not so lucky you get a helicopter ride you don't get to enjoy or just a box in the dirt.
go down to arroyo seco and ask for the guys who have ridden a lot of street. ask them how many funerals they've been to.
