Help! Jeep Turbo overboost

Hi

I've had my Jeep Patriot about 9 months. It has been in twice already because the engine light keeps coming on when I get into high speeds and the car goes into limp mode. If I turn it off and on again it resets its self however no very safe when in the fast lane and suddenly the power dies.

I've taken the car in and they say it is Turbo overboost error but don't know what is causing it. The manufacturer warranty has just run out however I have an extended warranty with the garage and I'm worried they are putting off finding the problem!

what do I do?? I've picked my car up and it did it twice on the way home.

the cause is the wastegate making the turbo spin too fast because it has too much pressure

what is the condition of the exhaust ?

if its clogged or kinked or leaking that could do it

or

install ( weld ) an aftermarket wastegate to the exhaust manifold

it wont do it anymore

there is probably an easier approach but thats the best one i know of

It could easily be the solenoid that controls the waste gate, modifying factory stuff as 970001zj recommended is not a good plan for the future of the vehicle. Find a shop that has people that actually know how turbo systems work because this should be a very easy to diagnose problem.
