Help catch a thief

Guys,

This may be more of a PBB thread, but I'm more loyal here, so I thought I would ping you all first. Here's the scoop:

I live in the city on a normal city block, probably 1/4 acre corner lot. I own my home, not renting. I've had several things stolen since I moved in about 4 years ago. Utility trailer out of side yard, Air compressor out of small storage building (shed #1), fishing rods out of back of truck parked on street, for sale sign out of front yard. Think that is about it.

The most recent event happened Tuesday. One of my friend's keeps his 4wheeler at my house. It stays parked on the concrete walkway around the pool. But I come home and it is pushed over to gate #1 with the grille guard sticking through the gate. Apparently someone(s) tried to steal it but it wouldn't fit through the gate.

The neighbors to the left (when looking at the diagram) are retired and home most all day everyday. They said they walked out to get the newspaper around 10AM and all was normal. Come back out around 11:30 and the 4wheeler was as described. They called the police, and they came out and assessed the situation. Tried to move the 4wheeler back, but couldn't get it to budge.

I also discovered that they had backed the bulbs out of the motion light that I have on the front of Shed #1. This is the 2nd time they've done that.

So, any suggestions? Right now I'm looking at borrowing a game camera to try to get someone in the act.

No enemies or anything like that. I'm two blocks from a mall, so I think that might be a contributing factor.

I would get security cameras. You can buy them super cheap and feed them wirelessly to your computer. I have them at my house, can even access the feeds via the Internet.

Do you have a dog?

I love that I idea but need help with the implementation. Got a link to a good one?

We have an English Bulldog that stays inside but has a fairly ferocious bark and is easily spooked.

Step 1. Drain water in pool and replace with salt water
Step 2. Place crocodiles in pool
Step 3. Profit?

Just use alligators... No salt needed, and native to more parts of the US than crocodiles.

The pool is already drained, and I do hunt alligators, so this is a possibility.

That would be epic. Hard to steal anything when your missing a leg.

I'm trying to keep the backyard usable to non-ninjas. Should've mentioned that.

My 5 step plan to keeping your own stuff:

Step 1. Screw motion light bulbs back in.
Step 2. Position dog on grassy knoll.
Step 3. Place a cot, sleeping bag, shotgun, and self in drained pool.
Step 4. Go to sleep and wait for dog to bark.
Step 5. Hear dog, shoot dumb bastard from the cover of your pool bunker.

Razor wire the top of your fences, then security cameras. That should keep people from hoppin the fence.

Line the perimeter of the yard with this

After they navigate through that surprise them with this

And if they do survive that, stock the pool with these
