Don't think I'm being all high and mighty...my Jeep and my Land Rover are paid off and I have an embarrassing list of toys. Just keeping it in perspective...
I just ran across these statistics. something like 40% of the people on our planet live on less than one dollar a day.

2 billion 400 thousand people (2400000000) live on less than $1 a day? maybe, but it seems like a bit of a stretch

That's what I heard...here's some more stats I just found online, slightly different...
- Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
- The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the poorest 48 nations (i.e. a quarter of the world’s countries) is less than the wealth of the world’s three richest people combined.
- Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn't happen.<51 percent of the world’s 100 hundred wealthiest bodies are corporations.
- The wealthiest nation on Earth has the widest gap between rich and poor of any industrialized nationThe poorer the country, the more likely it is that debt repayments are being extracted directly from people who neither contracted the loans nor received any of the money.
- 20% of the population in the developed nations, consume 86% of the world’s goods.
- The top fifth of the world’s people in the richest countries enjoy 82% of the expanding export trade and 68% of foreign direct investment — the bottom fifth, barely more than 1%.

But that's really unfortunate if almost half the world is desperately poor, and I ***** if the a/c doesn't cool down my car fast enough

You must be a oil worker.
All I can say to that is... How's it going neighbour.
I've got two Jeeps and a Corvette. I'm poor and should probably stop buying things,

heh. Sounds like one of my friends. His parents are both very wealthy and they have moved several times since he was a kid. Apparently they have apaid up front for their houses so he had a hard time imagining the concept of a mortgage when we tried to explain it to him.

I should have my '99 paid off by the end of the year. I bought it at the end of '04 so mine took 3 years.

Oh I understand the concept of a mortage and car payments. It was just nice to be able to save all winter from working 6 days a week 16 hours a day and not have to go thru the financing BS.
Nothing I love more than new car shopping in my work clothes. You can literally watch the salesmen run away and wonder if they should call security. I actually had one tell me the "Used car lot is around the corner". Their loss.
I just love when people judge someones wealth by their appearance. Its nice to *****slap them with $40k sometimes.
