Handgun recommendations for home defense?
Looking to get something for home defense. What would you recommend and why?

If you are looking for a handgun, Glock G22 is an excellent choice. I picked mine up at Academy sports for $500 about five years ago. I have been extremely happy with my purchase. Accuracy, reliability, good fit in my hands, control, low recoil, craftsmanship, stopping power, simplicity, etc. It's all there. Everything you can ask for in a handgun at an affordable price.

I wouldn't get a shotgun. They are quite unwieldy indoors. If you had to answer the door at 2AM, how are you going to handle that with a shotgun? At least with a pistol, you can hide it behind your back. Find something you like. Guns are personal choices, like picking out a car. Caliber isn't a huge issue, but recoil varies between them.

Buckshot doesnt penetrate like a 9mm or .40 either. Go with the shortest legal barrel. You'll be just fine.

Not even close. The 500 and maverick 88 are pretty much the same gun.
I suggest a wheel gun with a crimson trace grip. I prefer the K frames but there's nothing wrong with a short barreled J or L frame either.

Go with a Handgun go with a .45 acp, Colt 1911A1, or 1911A1 clone. They go for $400.00 to $1200.00, the design is over 100 years solid, a masterpiece by John Moses Browning, served our military for over 75 years. find some 185gr. hollow points, a slow, and steady push will stop any perp in your house.
Now with a shotgun go with 12 ga. Mossberg, or Mavrick the 8 round Persuaider 20.5" barrel, a little more money, but you have 3 more 00 buck shot rounds. Get one with a butstock, not the pistol grip. The pistol grip you have very little control no matter how " COOL " it looks, butstock you can " CONTROL " the damn thing, and in a situation in your house you " WANT CONTROL !! "

Go to a gun shop and see if they will let you fire the guns. Get whatever feels comfortable to you.

Shotgun would be a good choice,For a Handgun if you or spouse aren't familiar with guns a Revolver would be a Good Choice S&W's would be at the top of My list,as far as a Semi-Auto hand gun there are plenty of good choices start by looking at S&W-Glock-Springfield Armory XD series etc.
