Had an accident

I was about to take the freeway when all of the sudden I lost control (I really don't know how I lost control, No, no rain, all of the sudden I felt the tires going to the right) of my new VW Rabbit (4000 miles on the odometer) going at about 35mph , I got on the curb then on the grass, then I think that out of panic I stepped on the gas instead of the brakes because the car went to the left straight to the freeway, I gained control of the car, and drove to the nearest exit (there wasn't a place suitable to park at the accident scene)
I see the following damages but since this happened a a few hours ago and it is dark is all what I can see. No hubcaps on the front tires, the front steelies are bent about 1 inch, front bumper is scratched and hanging a little, the plastic covers that are under the engine bay are destroyed and hanging, some wires are hanging, AC stopped sending cold air. like I said, It was dark when this happened, I haven't checked everything under the Rabbit yet. The accident happened about 2 miles from home, so I drove the Rabbit back, the ! light came on when I was near home, the front passenger tire lost all the air a few minutes after I got home
I told the insurance exactly what I wrote here, but I really don't know why I lost control, liquid on the ramp? some kind of trash on the ramp that I didn't see? The claims representative is going to contact me in a few minutes, is it ok not to know exactly why I lost control?
I don't know. I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow, thanks for listening

As long as you weren't drunk, it will be fine. If you have comprehensive / collission then they will pick up the repair bill less your deductible.

I think what happens in these low speed accidents is something unexpected happens or a person reaches a curve faster than they intended and they overreaction. The over reaction causes a panic and they have an accident whereas if they didn't panic, it would have just been a routine maneuver. The fact that you hit the gas instead of the break tells me you paniced. I'm not dogging you because of it. Many people do it and I'm just offering some speculation.

If you would have been driving the Jeep, you would have just run over any obstacles and kept on going with no damage at all.

Good luck. At least it only damaged your rabbit and not you.

It's because I bumped the rear end because you were getting on the freeway at 35mph!!!

Did you hit something, perhaps? I'd go back first thing in the morning and take some pictures of the scene of the accident. Perhaps there are marks on the road that would indicate if you ran over something that you didn't see. You might also watch the news to make sure there aren't any stories about a hit and run driver in a new VW.

My best guess would be that I stepped on the gas, but again I'm not sure of that.
I don't have my Jeep anymore I traded it in to get the Rabbit

Even if there aren't marks on the road, there probably are marks in his underwear.

No kidding, I hate that, you're about to be in a lane that's going 65 or faster, push the skinny pedel already. People don't think about the dangers of going that slow and trying to merge into traffic, especially for those drivers that are behind them. The lane ends and people have to try to figure out how to get in the lane with semi's and whoever else bearing down on them...get the hell on already.

From where I stopped, I could see the traffic flowing. I didn't feel as if I had bumped into anything to cause the car to go right, when I felt an impact was when I got on the curb, then the car instantly went to the left.

Is one of those entrances with a curve, this happened at the curve, I even think that 35mph might be above the speed limit for that curve, but I've always taken the same curve the same way, even driving my Jeep

A wierd dip in the road will do that too, one of the roads I drive home on has some pretty bad tire groves from semi's and it will pull my car or truck either one toward the right everytime, I really have to steer to the left to keep it straight. Something to think about...

Did you notice any steering problems on the drive home? I'm guessing that it's still under warranty, and I'd make sure that the insurance company knows that it veered to the right for no apparent reason. This is how recalls start.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I was bashing you, I was just venting because that happened to me today on my way to work. I also nearly got sideswiped from a jack hole who decided to merge without looking while talking on his cell phone. Luckily for him I was able to move to the other lane, or he would have had a hard time making an appointment for the protologist with a cell phone up his ***.

Well, on the drive home I was driving at less than 20MPH because the car feels very weird, I think that it might be the steelies being bent, or because the tire was losing pressure. I hope that no major components under the car are damaged, the insurance (progressive) guy told me that they have service centers, that if I choose that route they take care of everything and they guarantee a time frame for the car to be ready, but I really want to take the car to the VW dealer, so that they can check everything
