Gun cleaning......WD40?
Talking about gun cleaning with a co-worker yesterday and he says he Only uses WD40 to clean his Glock's, says he never takes them apart, sprays WD40 all over then blows the gun down with air to get off the extra. Anybody have a opinion on this good or bad? says he has been cleaning his guns like this for 25 years. Chewy

I don't have a Glock, but I prefer the solvent, then oil option.

Dunno how good it is, but maybe not too bad... It's a Water Displacer (the WD in WD-40) plus a light lubricant. I'd have two concerns: 1)How long will it protect the metal, and 2) how much dust etc will end up sticking on it? Certainly better than nothing, just maybe not the best for that purpose.

Doesn't even field strip it? Can't clean the carbon buildup without tearing it down and taking a brush to it. I'm an old Army guy so I prefer CLP.

I DO have more than one Glock. And I don't care what kind of firearm you have... You should field strip it and clean/lubricate it after shooting or prolonged storage. There are several good solvents and lubricants. But you SHOULD field strip, inspect, clean, and lubricate. WD-40 doesn't count. Sorry. I wouldn't trust my life to a weapon treated in that manner.

Militec is the best gun oil out there. You put it on, shoot the gun to get it hot, then clean it again and wipe the oil off. It goes into the metal, so there is no oil residue left on the gun to collect dirt and grime. Sent my cousin a load of it while he was in the desert, and he loved the stuff.

it's a GLOCk...why is he cleaning it..?
j/k...WD-40 will work as a cleaner...BUT you gotta strip em down. I personally use Hoppes #9 with a toothbrush and a boresnake for my GLOCKS...then lube the appropriate places with Royal Purple... ![]() Realistically..you dont have to use anything on a GLOCK to protect it.

Yep, says he never strips them down, just a WD40 bath and air dry to remove the excess.....I might try it on one of my cheap guns but not on my favorite stuff. I don't really see how it can remove much residue without a brush. Chewy
