Not including stuff like laundry soap and trash bags?
Maybe $30. Bread, cereal, eggs, milk, maybe some canned soup.
The kids are gone, the dawgs are dead, and life is good.
We eat out.
A LOT.
(Caveat - if you include Scotch as food (and I've been known to) the average goes up. A LOT ).
When the 3 kids were home and we had the two sheep dogs - I couldn't stay up with the flow of consumption . We went through a couple of Extra Large boxes of cereal - per day... they were all, in high school, on the swim team and went through calories like I go through...well...Scotch.
Now it's a decent restaurant (we ain't talking Mickie Dee's), a leisurely meal, leave a tip, no dishes, no left overs and no waiting in line at the checkout counter behind the blue haired lady buying treats for her poodle.
My hunny's been with me for 36 married years (and dating before that) and she deserves not to have to cook. And neither one of us can stomach my cooking so we go out.
I have a few emergency rations filed away in case the restaurants all close, but mostly the cupboard and the 'fridge are bare these days.
Having kids at home was wonderful and fun and I'm glad I didn't miss it.
Having them gone at my age is almost as good and when the grand kids come over they want...pizza...

Well then I budget $600 a month for groceries, and $150 for all that other stuff we get at Target. Plus $100 for booze.

O.K. - add $20.
I do not understand how we dirty so many dishes and glasses (requiring expensive dishwasher soap) when we eat out so much. Maybe I should limit myself to rinsing out my whisky tumblers.
My clothes go to the cleaners, not to the washer, but I still buy the soap every couple of weeks.
And trash bags. Buying things you're going to throw away to hold stuff you're going to throw away...good grief!
Paper towels...tp...Head & Shoulders...all that junk adds up pretty quickly.
I just decided I have to return the kids, I can't afford to have raised them .
Actually our costs to keep the Swamp operational are pretty low, I spend more on gasoline per week. "Gasoline" in the Sinatra sense.
(For the younger crowd, read "Whisky" ).
I simply don't know how folks with youngsters at home do it. I know we did it - I just don't know how. From my current perspective it just seems impossible, and my hat's off to you.
I'd have money if I didn't own a Jeep...

I spend about 6 bucks a day, from a big salad on the days I don't work, and $8 for two very good meals at work. (when I say very good, a typical worklunch is white bean chili and turkey sammiches, dinner is a steak (or pork chops) with sweet potatoes and corn.
At home I eat a lot of pasta. I absolutely love ramen noodles. I know they are cheap, but you can't beat the cost to value ratio on those thangs.
So I guess it averages to about $50-60 a week about....
but if you factor in beer and liquor? I easily spend $50 a week on alcohol, no problem. The more I think about it, I can say $75 is more realistic on alcohol. The life of the single guy.
