If I wanted to see a movie about a complete nutjob I'd watch Portrait of a Serial Killer. Good music, though.

There is a lot of debate on the web about his actions and whether or not they were influenced by the fact that he was repressing his homosexuality. He does talk in the film about how much he likes women then says "but it would be a lot easier if I were gay." The guy had many inner demons, there's no question about that.

It was a great comedy:

Hippy goes and lives with bears, pets bears etc., surprise, hippy gets eaten by a bear. The only tragedy here is that they shot the bear that ate him.

You're right, as tragic as it was that the bear at him... it really didn't deserve to be shot.

sadly, the bear that got shot, most likely wanted to get shot because he realized what he just ate.

I saw the pre-screening of this at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. Some people need to be dead, this guy was one of them. At the very least he was a bad influence on the bears he was around, acclimating them to humans. Mostly i just found him annoying. What i found even more annoying was the woman he worked with in the resteraunt (his ex?). That woman was obviously around just because she wanted to be an 'actress' and had to be on camera showing her ability to cry. They did a Q&A after the movie with her and i had to leave before i went into a homicidal rage.

The guy that did the autopsy though, now he was a creepy mofo

I also came away with the impression that Werner Herzog (SP?), the director, just did this piece because he thought it would make *him* look good. Pretentious and pandering, bah!

I heard that the camera was running when the bear ate him? Did they show this in the film?

Right, the camera was recording sound but the lens cap was on. There is a scene in the film where we see the director listening to the audio of the bear attack but we do not get to listen to it.

Nature is wild and beautiful and vicious and unforgiving.

This idiot made his choice. His ego, bolstered by successive attempts to get closer and closer, got him killed by a wild animal. Nature will only tolerate so much interference by mankind.

I remember that "faces of death" video, with the idiot from the shot at Yellowstone...tried to feed the bear and, well...fed the bear with his own body....I dont care who ya are: that sh*t was funny right there....
