It tells you that they designed it for the weight of water.
It also tells you that there are locks for the displaced water to go.

Can you explain how to make an icecube (made of water) that sinks in water?
BTW ships have density as well. Relative density with the water is what makes anything float... including ships.
Yes pressure (as in the case of the water) is in every direction... but the pressure downward is the only weight the bridge feels. The trough design is what has to take into account the outward bulging pressure.

Ultimitely, the water level is determined by the locks, with the boat included. Since the boat is included when the water level is set, the weight of everything in that part of the channel is constant. The boat weighs the same amount as the water it displaces, so the question needs to be more clear.

I don't know where get your icecubes, but the ones I make in my freezer float.
Yeah, the pressure goes everywhere so it would be pushing along the sides of the channel more with the boat in than without it.
