Grand Prix Woes - Need your help badly!
Okay heres the deal. Somehow my girlfriend lost both keys to her 2004 Grand Prix GT. I went down to the dealership and had them cut a new key for it from her VIN. It is a programmable key so her car needs to relearn it since I didn't have an original key to bring in. The parts guy told me all I needed to do was turn the key in the igniton for 10 minutes, turn it off, turn it on another 10 minutes, turn it off, turn it on a final 10 minutes and it would start up. This did not work at all and now we are out 75 dollars.
I called them up and basiaclly was told to get ****ed. I have a couple options here. I can suck it up and pay to have my car towed in or I can try doing the ignition turn off thing a few more times and see if it somehow magically works this time around. Any tips/advice on what to do about the key/dealership would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance - Mark. PS, Merry Christmas JF!!

Well.. hehe. I dunno how to tell ya this mate, but as I recall, newer GMs are not just coded, the key actually disables the engine from starting totally. I think the Tech II needs to be plugged in to program it. I would say try it again though. Never gonna hurt it to try again. A Ford will definitely program with that procedure though. (Not that that helps any.)

I have similar problem with my wifes acura. We just bought a used 2006 and it only came with a valet key. The dealership wanted 140 bucks for the keyand to program it. I did some searching and found a local locksmith with the gear to program the key. He'll do it for 85. My suggestion is to try and find a local lock smith that deals in vehicle keys and key fobs. I know the acura key cannot be programed with a hookup to the software. The dealership shouldprogram that for you too, there might be a fee though. Maybe try a different dealership.
