I owned two Scout II's, a '77 and a '78 and they are awesome rigs, along with the old Wagoneer, the Scouts are the original SUV's.
Both of mine had the IH 345 V8, 727 3-spd Auto, and Dana 44's, I ran 32's on the '77.
I am building up my WJ Limited the way I am because I never could afford to do it when I had my Scouts.
If you find one, look for rust (body mounts, rockers and quarter panels are bad places), and be prepared for wiring gremlins, the harnesses don't age well. I would suggest replacing it all with a Painless harness.
We used to joke, the Scout could crawl straight up the side of a building if you pushed it, they are amazing.
