Got a speeding ticket
Well on my way to class, driving my dads car (I was still putting the exhaust on the jeep when i had to leave) I'm going down route 50 coming down a big long hill, speed limit is 55. I go under one of the bridges and look up and there is a cop sitting on the bridge so I looked at my speed like 65 or so and let off the gas. 2 seconds later there is another cop on the on ramp that pulls behind me and pulls me over, 67 in a 55. I explained to him that I was running late for my college class and I wasn't paying attention to my speed. He was really nice and I thought I was goanna get away with a warning. comes back and says sign this, I asked if it was a ticket and he said yes. Anyways any tips on to fight this or not, i was thinking since it was my dads car which is a 5 speed I was just coasting down the hill. This is my 1st ticket, I got a few warnings like 5 years ago. BTW- WV tickets are pretty expensive its def gonna be over 100 bucks.

There's nothing to fight. You were wrong, grow up, pay your ticket, and move on.

there realy are no tips. you were speeding and they got you fair and square. the 5-speed defence wont work either. no matter who owns the car, if you are operating it, it is your responsibility to abide by the law and to know how to operate that vehicle just like any other you drive.

I posed this question to a family member who was a career cop. He said to me, I don't care if you were coasting or not... you have brakes right?

Always fight a speeding ticket, you have nothing to lose. If the cop doesn't show up you automatically win. If he does you can ask him "Did you actually see the radar reading yourself?" he will have to say "no" then ask how do you know it was me then? I won a ticket I got in a speed trap like that. If you fight and lose it the most that can happen is you'll have to pay the fine.

I'd guess dad's car is a fairly mew model with an electronic gauge package?
Pay up sucker, you got caught. Otherwise, put some big ole tires on the end connected to the mechanical speedo and pay the 'faulty equipment' ticket. It's a civil infraction, not a moving violation. Read that as: Insurance won't know.

Yeah, you really have nothing to fight, but showing up in court the judge may offer you driver improvement classes in exchange for no points on your license. And quotas don't exist in law enforcement, trust me.

orly? In NC, there was a pretty big controversy in Charlotte not too long ago when the Charlotte Observer (newpaper) got ahold of info that they did indeed have quotas for a while. |
