Is that why? I thought it was because they are "made" to come off. I mean any cars doors can come off. So the door sill thing does make sense

There's no need for that sill if the doors aren't meant to come off, so...yeah. Many states observe doorless laws so long as it was a factory built option. Some states don't care so long as you have a mirror and a windshield. Some don't even care about the windshield. This is why state-by-state codes suck because of zero consistency.

i must agree that is screwed, but you were warned to put them on and didn't
you drove clients around against company policy, and were fired as a result

who is really to blame?
seems obvious to me
i feel for you... but you are ok with having another job and all
so, all is well

I think I would demand to see that policy in writing.

I like your rig man, but gotta be honest.. If I showed up to a business and this was their idea of my transportation:
then I'd probably get back in my jeep and walk away.

^ haha well alot of the college girls come in and i say that they can ride with me if they walked to the office, then they ask if my jeep is the blue monster truck outside haha

but anyways it is street legal in indiana and my insurance does cover it and will actually replace my aftermarket parts if destroyes in an accident. im not sure how my folks set it up but it is a pretty sweet insurance plan for my XJ

Not everyone thinks a doorless vehicle is "kewl". If I'm conducting business, I would rather be shown around town in a respectible vehicle rather than a dirty, doorless Jeep. Now, to put things in perspective, if you were doing "legitimate" business, whatever it might be, and you showed up with your nice clothes on, were expecting to be shown some sights around town, how would you feel about some ghetto pimp show up to ride you around around in this, with the window down so all could see you in there? I'd tell them in a heartbeat that they don't want my business.

I know that you being just 18, you think everyone wants to get in your cool Jeep, and would just push people over to get to ride, but it's not so. I like your ride, but if I'm showing up in my suit, I want to get in something that will not cause me to have to make a trip by the cleaners when I leave the appointment. Sorry!

It will definitely tarnish your record, even more than a termination. Most applications have a question to the affect of "have you ever filed a lawsuit against an employer?" Do you think they will hire you if they think you just might sue them down the road as well? Not on your life!

By law, they are not allowed to tell "why" you got fired, but if you ask them if you would hire them back, they can certainly say that they wouldn't. What more would need to be said?

They really should change the title of this thread to "I got fired from my job for not listening to my boss"

Many companies have a policy of only verifying time of employment and title/classification and not going into details about a past employee. It's meant to protect the company against defamation of character lawsuits. These policies are generally ignored when giving a positive reference.

As to all the people recommending getting a lawyer... About half of the states in the US are right-to-work states, where most employees can be fired on the spot for virtually anything as long as it doesn't violate federal/state law. Virtually every state allows a great deal of lead way to allow employers to fire employees at their whim.

Unless the OP has an iron clad employment contract, he is out of luck.

Most people doing the hiring know this as well, so if the only response they get to their questions is yes, so and so worked here for 4 months, and he was a leasing agent, and can get no further information, they can read between the lines and know the employee was fired for some reason.

i can see the whole presentation of the company point of view very clearly, but this company is selling 45 year old apartments in a college town to 18 - 21 year old students. they rent for about 400 - 600 bucks a person depending on the size and location of the apartment. if they were brand spankin new apartments in the prime location in town then that would be a different story.

but they knew what my jeep looked like before the hired me, if it mattered so much then why not let me drive a company car around. i dunno, but im still trying to figure out the best way of going about finding out the real reason why they fired me.
