Good place to get tires

The wife's libby needs 4 new tires. They were never balanced right so they are slicks on the inside.

So, what places do you like to get your tires from?

It can be online, but I was thinking Discount Tire so I can have lifetime rotation / balance, so I don't have the problem I have now.

I will most likely buy the tires for the Libby like the ones that are on my Commander.

Any suggestions?

I don't know if Texas has them or not, but I'm a big fan of Les Schwab tire stores. They're really big on customer service. I also like Costco for tires, but it can be a pain to get them to install larger than OEM tires on your rig.

Take any written estimate to Discount Tire and they will match it, that's what I did when I bought my Heep's tires.

Yokohama Geolander A/Ts is what I run. Great tread life, quiet, and good in the rain for a fairly aggressive AT. I get mine from tirerack.com.

No Les Schwab, but we do have Costco? How is Costco or Sams on price?

I bought 4 maxxis bighorns from eBay, and America's Tire (www.americastire.com) mounted and balanced. Not lifetime, but they did it.

When I buy tires I get a quote at NTB, have discount tire beat it by whatever amount, then go to another place that price matches and get that price beat. You can usually save a good amount of money that way.

Sharpie,

I guess I am needing to replace my wife's tires. Her's are 235/65/17. I was hoping to go up to a 245/65/17 if I can. I want something quite / beefy looking, so there is a balance between the two issue that I am needing work on. I just don't want mini-van tires, but I do want her ride to be quite.

Oh, I don't know **** about tires also.

Uneven wear like that is more likely a result of improper alignment...

Balancing is important, but you should also get an alignment when buying new tires -- especially since you have had uneven wear on your last set.

The last time I bought tires was at Discount Tire. They only stocked 2 tires in the size I needed so I told them to put the less expensive ones on and my wife and I went to lunch. When we came back from lunch they said "We were out of the tire you wanted so we put the more expensive ones on for the same price. Have a nice day." I will be buying more tires from them in the future.

Dunno what your choices are, other than you mentioned Discount Tire. I believe they are the same as America's Tire on the West coast (America's is affiliated with Discount Tire Direct, a national chain). If so, they should be a good bet. Most major tire shops also do alignments.

One good thing about getting tires and alignment at the same place is that if there's any problem with wear, balance, pulling, or anything else, there is no finger-pointing. They will take care of it for you.

Yoko Geolander A/Ts are quieter than the Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts, the stock Goodyear Wranglers, or BFG A/Ts. I've had them on my XJ, Durango, and now my 05 WK. No complaints here.
