Going to Toronto...
USF is going to the international bowl, and athletics is dropping the coin to bring 100 band members to the game, myself included. I have no idea what to expect while in Toronto. Mainly, is American currency accepted up there? If not, how do I go about getting some Canadian currency? Will my Visa credit and debit cards work up there? What's the best kind of maple syrup to bring back a whole bunch of? Anything else I should know? I've never been out of the country before, save a few hours in Juarez on a day trip. I feel half retarded not knowing the answers to these questions, but I guess I gotta ask to learn

About the maple syrup- if you can avoid it, don't buy it in one of the gift shops in the airport, most grocery stores will have if for far less money

Fist off don't pay in US currency anywhere, you wll get ripped off. Exchange your money while in the States or at a Canadian bank/currency exchange place.
Your ATM card/credit card should work most places, my Canadian debit card works at all american ATM machines and at every store except stupid walmart. When going to the States, I always bring Canadian beer and cigarettes as gifts. (US customs always lets me take a small amount through, (12 pack) and that is all anybody ever seems to want. Toronto is like the New York city of Canada, there will never be a momement where you can't access your money to buy something!

Do NOT exchange money for a Toronto trip, that's ridiculous.
Your pocket cash will be fine and you will get Canadian change. The exchange rate right now is close to what, 96 cents or so, don't sweat under a nickel. Your CC's will work just fine, and the dollar value will be billed to you for the rate of exchange at the time/day of purchase. Your ATM card will work just fine and you will get canadian bucks out of the machine and the US amount at that time/day will be what gets taken out of your account. Just try not to bring much Canadian money back. Looney and twooney for your change pile or so, but try to spend what you get up there. |

Now is your chance to take back all of those pesky Canadian pennies, nickels, and dimes you have accumulated as change over the years.

The combination of the latter two items alone costs China the equivalent of 14% of its GDP each year." - Jared Diamond, Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed |

Everybody in my town stops at the currency exchange near the border as the stores always rip you off. Currency exchange places are convienent and everywhere. Casino's usually have top exchange rates too.

Our money is prettier than yours
Give yourself some time to shop around, it's a nice town, but I'll never move back. That said, a great place to visit. As for maple syrup, that stuff is expensive no matter where you buy it, but the fancier packaged stuff will be costlier. If you are buying it for gifts, get the pretty bottled stuff, if it's for your own use, get it in cans at a grocery store. It's all good, all tastes pretty much the same. The Federation des Producteurs Acéricoles du Quebec has maple syrup for sale to benefit breast cancer, you can find it in the grocery stores. Welcome to Canada. PS Montreal has better looking women than Toronto...but I'm from both towns ![]() |

I traveled to Canada recently on a fishing trip. You will need your passport as I believe that the law changed in October of this year if traveling by air. If traveling by boat or car a Valid US license may still get you through. Yes, they will accept Canadian money but I have always found it easier to exchange currency at the airport. Most hotels will also exchange money at a fee. The one thing about Canada is that you can get real Cuban cigars. BTW, Also a fellow bull here. class of 91.

I said take his pocket money and not worry about it and use the cards/atm after that. If you're worried about getting "ripped" for 50 cents on breaking a US $20 somewhere in another country you shouldn't be travelling and spending cash. |

yes. You will need either a passport or one of those lame "passport cards" that only allow you to travel Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean.
