Getting rid of the Jeep!!!

Hey all its been fun and been great meeting you all, but im getting fed up with the costs of owning a Jeep. I cant stomach the 10mpg anymore, nor can I stomach the constant cost of repairs for things that shouldnt be breaking especially if im not wheeling the jeep. Ball joints are shot with 8k miles on them and ABS sensors on a bi weekly basis. I should know by the end of the week if I got my loan for the FJ!

Oh man thatís way too bad. I can understand your frustration but have you even considered getting a new Jeep? Concerning the FJ, have you been on one of their forums and checked out the tech section, maybe they have their share of problems too. Hate to see you leave.

I agree it is expensive owning a jeep....with the addiction of making modifications!!!! Lol! I hope you don't do any wheeling cause a fj won't get you many places without lots of mods

2nd-2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport
3rd- 2008 Jeep Liberty Unlimited 2.5 JBA Lift, 32" goodyear duratracs

See it isn't hard to tone it down and at least fake being amiable!

Ive done my fair share of research and the FJs dont have nearly the problems that Jeeps do. No DW issues. Far higher quality of construction, better warranty, higher HP and Fuel Economy. I just have had my fair share of issues with my Jeep since I got it. But thank you!

Well good luck to you. Iíve seen a few built ones in magazines and they did look really neat. Are there different models of the FJs like stout off road packages or something like that? I guess I could google them but since you alreadyÖ

Honestly, if i were you, insted of taking out a loan, just get a cheap Grand cherokee, it will get better gas mileage. Also, it should be better about parts breaking vs The new JK

See, the JK is like a phone or computer that just came out. Tons of problems, and breaks easily.

The Grand cherokee is like the enigizer bunny, just keeps going.

My mom had one and loved it, so i hope you atleast consider it. Thanks!

@Tyler, I already started the paperwork for the loan. I just feel that if the JK has this many issues I can only imagine how bad Jeeps "less rugged" models break. A guy I work with has the FJ and with the 6spd manual tranny is getting 22mpg highway, im getting 10 mpg highway. Can you see where Im interested.

10 mpg highway? What, do you have larger tires and didn't regear, or do you just have the petal to the floor the whole time?

You have 3.5" lift and stock tires? I think most of your problems are a bad installation.

10mpg on stock tires? Something is wrong there or you tow a lot or have a lead foot?

No Im running 32" Hankook Dynapro AT-Ms with a 3.5" lift. Bad installation, how? Alignments spot on, and nothings binding. or rubbing. And the 3.5" is no bigger then others on the forum. my very close friend here has an 08 JK with a 4" lift and 35's and is getting 12mpg. Its not just me. And i live in a mountainous area and do have to get on the pedal often to get power to get up here. And why would I need to regear with 4.10s are standard on rubicons with 32's
