Fully Electric Jeep?

I heard about a full electric Jeep, and I was wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this? I found an article on the Jeep EV but thats about it.

Jeep EV: Rock Crawling The Electric Way - Jeep Wrangler EV - Jalopnik.

If anyone comes across an article about Jeep making a full electric Jeep, then please post it. Im really curious about it. Thanks

I thought there was somebody on this site a couple of years ago that tried putting an electric motor and batteries in an XJ?

I searched, but can't find it now. Maybe someone else that's better at the interwebs can find it.

I researched it last year for a while. The thing is that in order to get any kind of range out of it you have to spend monster bucks the very newest battery technology. Wet cell lead batteries won't do you any good unless you just want to use it to run to the store and back.

As far as the actual conversion it's not that hard. You need a motor, there is lots of options here but even an electric forklift motor will do.

Then you need an adapter to tie the transmission to the motor, you have to use a standard transmission, but you don't shift it. For instance, when you are stopped the motor is not going. So you put it in 1st or 2nd gear and hit the gas and away you go. If you want a higher top end range then you choose a higher gear to start in.

You also need an electronic vacuum pump for the brake booster. And a controller to handle all the electric getting to where it needs to be and when.

Like I said though, if you can't afford super awesome alloy cored batteries you are stuck with a big Power Wheels that you have to plug in every 30 miles.

Envi, Chryslers engineering division for the development of electric vehicles, has been disbanded, ending plans for an electric Jeep.

I talked to that guy last year and he said his range isn't very good. But the project is still very cool.

It wouldnt matter if it gets rolled. You won't even have to turn it off.
