FORD PROBLEMS cerritos ford
i am having an oil consumption problem with my ford expedition. i am looking for some advice on how to get this thing fixed. if anyone knows anyone in the ford corperation that can help me, please let me know.
i have had my expedition in the service center at CERRITOS FORD [with lousy results]. this thing is consuming over a quart in 1000 miles... and sometimes more. they are telling me that this is normal oil consumption fora 2000 expedition with 75,000 miles on it. that is ridiculous! by the time it got back in for its routine oil change, which is suggested by ford at every 5000 miles.. this junk would be just about empty! the CERRITOS FORD dealership has set me up on this testing pattern to wear down my warranty. i paid a fortune for the ford extended service plan which expires at 75000 miles.. i began having this problem at about 68,000 miles. they have been "testing" this junk until i am now at 74,000 miles. they now say they will not repair the engine! i have called the ford hotline and they put the responsibility on the dealership. who the hell can authorize a repair on this thing?!!! the manager at CERRITOS FORD actually had the gull to tell me if i am concerned about the consumption to just sell the truck. HELP!

I had a Blazer that did the same thing... actually even worse. it burned a quart every 250 miles... I had the motor replaced twice before I sold it. The block was cracked both times... If I were you I would get rid of it befoire it becomes an issue like mine was. My truck spent almost an entire summer int eh shop getting engine swaps under warranty.... So my syggestion is to sell it or trade it in immediately.

Have you ever had an oil consumption test done? Which is basically you get your oil changed then every week or two(or at a short mileage interval) you take it in to have the mileage and amount of oil missing documented and replaced. Usually over the course of an oil change you can get a good idea of how much it's burning and if it's normal. I can't remember what the spec is for Fords but, even though I don't agree, GM has a bulletin out saying 1 quart ever 1k miles is acceptable. I'd call the customer service line and tell them what's going on or find another dealer.

@75,000 miles 1qt every 1k is not really that bad. Start changing your oil every 3k not 5K unless you are using synthetic. If you are using SYN change to a regular oil. They are thicker and may help your situation. I do not know what Fords policy's are but from working with GM,Chrysler,Jeep you wouldnt get any help from us either. GM does have a Service bulletin stating that any of there cars from 1997 on have to consume MORE then 1qt every 1K miles before an engine teardown would even be considered under warranty. Wish I had some info that could help you but I dont.

Park it in the show room floor and throw them the keys, tell them to call you when its fixed. Seriuosly, leave it there before it turns over 75000, tell them to fix it or you'll involve the better buisness bureau. Might scare into some kind of compensation.
As far as normal consumption, my old dodge with 452,000 kms on the truck AND engine used about 1/2 a liter between fill-ups, and most of it ended up on the ground.

Ford is also in the '1 quart every 1,000 miles is normal' category. You're out of luck.
Change to a thicker oil, 10w-40 or 15w-40.

Leave it there??? Ya know what that gets ya nothing. You will finally get tired of not having your vehicle and come to pick it up a month later and find that the battery is dead from sitting and the tires have gone flat from not being driven. You will not win in court against a dealership that has a legal document from the every one of the big 3 stating that 1qt every 1k miles is normal. Sorry........

where in the hell they got that number of 1qt per 1000, i'll never know. that is ridiculous with todays tolerances on these engines, for one to burn that much oil... there is obviously something wrong with it.

It sounds to me like the pistons need to be re-ringed. Are you getting blow-by in the exhaust? I don't know if you have emissions testing in your area, but a sniffer might be able to pick up oil being burnt at a high rate.
Either way, more than 1 qt per 1000 miles is rediculous. 75K is NOT high milage. I've had vehicles with more than twice the milage that hardly consumed any oil. I would initiate action with the BBB immediately, before the warranty runs out.

Also, you need to find a better dealer. The dealership name sounds familiar, in a "Places To Avoid" kind of way. I don't remember where(what forum) I heard about them, but I could swear I've heard it before.

i am certain that burning that kind of oil is not normal... hell, my jeep had 200,000 miles on it and didnt burn a lick of oil. EVER! there is something wrong with this expedition. heads, rings.. something.
i spoke with the gm of CERRITOS FORD this evening. he said he would try to "pull some strings" to get me out of their hair. we'll see what he has to say on tuesday. i put a call in to my attorney, and have not yet heard from him. i KNOW what they are doing IS wrong. it is all documented in my favor. i really hate to invest any more time in this damn issue. but, until it is completely resolved i am going to post everywhere i can think of on the net so others know of my misfortune, and mistreatment at their facility, and by FORD in general. i paid a premium for this extended warranty. [ford premium care] it is not some side company.. this is the real deal. i will be the squeaky wheel! ![]()

I can not believe 1 qt per 1,000 miles is acceptable! That just amazes me.
It does sound like they are trying to send you over the warranty. I also agree with PrfctAggression, you need to get them to take care of it before the warranty runs out... Seriously, 1 qt per 1,000 miles ???? That's messed up if that's "in the normal category" Do they put that information on the sticker when you buy it under OIL: MPG's.......... ![]()

I know on my father's Ram 2500 it wasn't burning oil but actually sucking it in through the intake at a pretty fast rate. So my question is are you sure its actually burning oil and not something else?
