Ford 8.8

I can get a ford 8.8 for 75 bucks from a 1991 explorer. It only has drums i know. But its also only 75 bucks and i can deal with drums no problem. Should i just buy this and build it instead of buying an already built axle since it is so cheap?

Also i have about 800 bucks saved that im gonna put into my axle fund do you think i could build this axle to get it under the jeep (tj) for that much?

Im gonna be paying to get the perches welded for me.

Thanks

Be ready for the boys to start fighten over the axle thing again(D44 vs. 8.8) But for that amount of $$$ I'd say go for it. It's atleast a good start.

id look around i got my 8.8 w/disc for 100 from a local yard. im sure theres a buch of stuff on here about them but im new so i prob havent seen it but if i got another 8.8 i would truss it. i bent it , now you may no be as aggressive on your jeep as i was ( note the was, a payment on a jeep makes a difference on how you treat it) but i jumped it twice and bent it.

The later model 8.8 was also upgraded from 28 to 31 spline axles. That said, the older 8.8 is still an improvement over the d35 for sure.
