All right -- spill it!! I have 4 of us in the office working on this damn thing, and we can't figure it out!!! It's gotta be a math thing, but how??????? Please share the secret with us dummies!!!

Thats cool.
here's how it works:
Take any number (two digit like it says) and do the calculation. Of all the numbers (11-99) there is a finite number of solutions (9,18,25,27,36,37,54,45,60,63,72,81). These are the only answers you can ever get. If you notice, each time these numbers have the same symbol. Each time you click, the symbols change, but the above solutions are all you can ever get, and sdubsequently have the same symbol.

Cool though, it made me think.

Not quite. The only values you can ever get are multiples of 9, so the set of answers is {9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81} and all of those are always the same symbol.

Look at it this way. Any two digit number can be defined as 10*x + y. The "Mind Reader" says to add those two individual digits together and subtract it from the number. So that means we have (10*x + y) - (x + y) = 9x So all solutions are multiples of 9.

Another way to look at it is all the numbers starting with a 1 give the answer 9 (10 - 1 = 9, 11 - 2 = 9, 12 -3 = 9, etc) all the numbers starting with a 2 give 18 (20 - 2 = 18, 21 - 3 = 18, 22 - 4 = 18, etc) and so on for all the possible numbers.
