Fiance lost engagement ring .........

Anyway she goes to her cousin's house and flashes the ring to everyone she hasn't seen in a long while. They go out shopping and all that crap and then when she arrives home she notices that the ring is gone. She was afraid to call me because I spent my hard earned $2000.00 on the ring(I don't make alot of money).
Everytime I think about it I feel sick to my stomach. I have been feeling sick to my stomach since she told me. I am already looking at a new ring to give her but in no way will I spend that much again. Has this happend to anyone else in here before?

Do you own a home? Have homeowner's insurance? Couldn't this be covered by that?

That's what coworkers were saying but I know she did not do that because I have been with this girl for almost 10 years and we are getting married in November of this year. She also has a great job and makes good money. Yes I have home owners insurance, does it cover the ring? Sorry for being so stupid when it comes to things like this but I did not know that home owners insurance covers that.

It covered all of my fishing gear when it got stolen out of my boat in Missouri (I live in Illinois) on a trip. Since you do have homeowner's insurance I would certainly call up your insurer and check that avenue out......

your home owners insurance WILL cover the ring. i think they have a limit of $2000 which is perfect in your case... but if you go bigger, be sure to let your insurance know. this way it will be covered to its value
good luck!
i have been in your position before.. it sucks to have to replace something like that. not just the money, but the sentimental part of it too. oh well.. it all works out in the end.
pick a nice one!

IIRC, I got about $2300 for new fishing stuff. I had a field day once I got that check Perhaps the limit is a state thing?

i dont think it is a state thing so much as it is a jewelry thing. jewelery can have insane values, and it needs to be documented. with theft, things are different as well. as soon as you fill out the police report, your insurance company is ready to cut a check.
someone swiped my laptop from my car once... they gave me a check for 2500 bucks without even flinching. its nice to be insured
but the jewelery is a different animal. check with your provider to be sure of the coverage for jewels

Good point. As much as this sucks for franco802, hopefully things will work out well (both financially and personally) for him.

The second you get jewelry you need to get it appraised and then have it added on under your home insurance. I pay 13 dollars extra every year for all of my wifes jewelry. I have pictures of every item and the apraisal in a lock/fire box......

ditto...your homeowner's might cover it up to $2000 (not real sure of the details) but you need a seperate policy for "other" stuff...I pay about $5/month for jewelry, etc...

Ah man! Geez bro, I feel for you. I got a policy for mine and my wifes ring and it only cost me 100 bucks for the whole year. It recovers all damages, loss, stolen...everything. Her engagement ring was 3500...i would cry if she lost it and it wasn't insured. I suggest getting the new ring its own policy, they are really cheap everywhere else except in florida. Look into it...

Somethine similar happened to me. It was my ring that got lost though. Was at work bout 9 yrs ago and took my ring off to wash my hands.... Long story short I left it on the sink and it "disappeared".....Worst day of my life when I had to tell my wife of 2 MONTHS!!! I lost my wedding band... Needless to say we were back at the jewelers that weekend getting me a new band...9 years later and I still have it............

My wife lost her wedding ring ( $3500 ) and a watch I get her on our honeymoon ( $300 ) and insurance said if it was lost 'on premise' that they would not pay . We eventually figured out that is was stolen by a friends drug addict wife ( who is now long gone .... and if I ever find that bit...... ) Anyway .... Kory was gonna call the famous Sylvia Brown to find out where her ring and watch went ! Too bad Sylvia didn't answer the phone
