Fellow Jeeper Respect

Quick question to all you verteran jeepers.

I have owned my jeep since 2005 (first one) and since day one, I have noticed the mutual wave when passing other jeeps on the road. However, I have also noticed that it is usually just between the wrangler types. Cherokees, Patriots, Loredos, Liberties, etc, don't seem to respond. Believe me, I am all about the "It's a Jeep Thing" concept. I completely understand.

But to remain "jeepolitically" correct, do I give the wave to all models, or what?? (I also realize that a courtesy wave to any jeep chick in any model is in order, regardless)

AFAIK any modded jeep gets a wave and all iterations of the wrangler do. at least they're most likely to return it...

however, if I saw a WJ/WK/XJ on the side of the road I'd be more inclined to stop than if it was another manufacturer...

I personally wave at Wranglers, but give respect to all Jeeps. Just different levels I guess.
If I saw a Jeep on the side of the road I would also be more incline to stop. If I saw someone getting into any Jeep that obviously wheels, I'd be more incline to start a conversation. But..I wouldn't start talking to some soccer mom getting into her Liberty..
That's just my opinion..

I wave at all Wrangler's, though I find that the newer, personnel-carrier style Jeepers usually don't wave back.

Interestingly, I discovered the wave by accident. I was so elated with my purchase, I just started waving to each one I passed and they all waved back. I had an '83 GTI and the experience was similar. It was months before I learned about "the wave."

Notice he did exclued ZJ's

I got a wave from a wrangler last big snow storm, it was more of a mutual understanding that we should be the only vehicles out on the road and we had important work to do regaurgless of the weather.

sorry. please include any *.J i've missed

but if it helps, take it as me saying that ZJ's never break down, and therefore I would never need to stop to help one

I used to get waves frequently in the 5.9 ZJ. I attributed that to its rarity.

I wave at other Jeepers, regardless of their model on a per incident basis. Not sure what warrants the wave. I guess its a gut feeling. LOL

There are an increasing number of people that either don't know about the waving, or don't care to do it. I've been a big proponent of waving really early, before they get too close, and then if they don't reciprocate, you just transition into a big ol' middle finger and make sure they see that one.

I just gotta ask.... were you serious when you said you'd be more inclined to stop if a broken down vehicle was a jeep than if it were from another manufacturer?

I can understand that. I would be more inclided to stop for a jeep being I have a greater understanding of them then most other vehicles.

Decent point-- but if you were able to change a tire, or make a cell phone call to help someone in a jeep-- you'd also be able to do it for a chevy, ford, 'yota. At least pulling over to SEE if you can help would be beneficial. Honestly, not everyone stops for stranded people (I'd encourage my wife not to stop, for example) and I'm cool with that. I just questioned that one person specifically based on the tag under their name.

I wave to all Wranglers but if I see another modded Jeep that appears to be used for off road'ing I will give them the wave also. A lot of people just use them to drive to the mall and back haha.

A modded XJ gets an big wave. A modded anything else gets a fingers-off-the-wheel wave. Stockers get nada unless they wave first.
