1993 Dodge stealth twin turbo or a mitsub 3000GTS AWD turbo. Are you looking for fast or quick? Do you want to go 160 MPH or 0-60 in 4.2 seconds? There is a big difference between fast and quick.

I thought about mentioning a Porsche 944, but the ones I'm finding are right around 10k, which leaves little to no money left for modding it.. But they have a 3.0l I4, wow.. That has to be the biggest displacement I4 ever..

+1 for the fox bodys, they are cheap, easy to work on, plentiful with parts, and very torquey (which is why they are fun to drive )

93-97 Z28 or T/A are goin from 4-5 around here do some head work and throw on a STS turbo and be about 20hp shy of 500 RWHP for about 9k

or do the same to a 98-02 LS1 Fbody and get about 550RWP for a few grand more

Usually...yes, but there are still good ones out there to be had for around 3-4K with no rust at all. My last one was $300 bucks, and the only rust was surface in the engine bay and the drivers side floor was gone. It ran great, had 90K on the clock and came with a full exhaust, shorty headers, 3.73's, C&L meter, and a cobra intake on it. All i put into it was a new floor, hood, pass side door, changed the oil and put new tires on the front.

I put almost 10K miles on it in under a year and the worst thing that happened was when i was powershifting from 2-3 it spun and i scraped the hell out of my rims on the curb.

I would go with an LT1 F-body if I had the cash laying around. I miss mine a whole lot. I paid $3900 for my 1994 Z-28 with 43K on it. About $1000 later, with some help from my uncle, it was a nice little 355. I loved that car, but the first time that Opti died on me, I didn't have enough money to get it fixed the way I wanted it...so I had to part with it for the same price I paid for it, to later find out the new owners totally destroyed it via a 30-foot ditch.

Anyway, LT1s are awesome, I miss mine and will buy another one after my upcoming tour to Iraq. I am pretty excited about it actually.

LS1 F-body (98-02) . They can be had for well under 10k.

Stock you're already deep into the 13's and getting over 20mpg. You can be runnning 12's with less than 1k bucks in mods. The cars are also a lot newer and nicer than a 20 year old mustang with a built motor...

fox body x4 or whatever. hahaha.

Or you could pick up a 280Z and throw a 350 in it. that would be pretty fast.

i hate the handling of all the cars that have been mentioned.
If you are doing that stupid drag crap then this is fine.
but if you want real speed with handling go with an old VW GTI
german ftw

Another vote for a fox body. Aftermarket is HUGE for them and you can find them relatively cheap.

A stock 5.0 with bolt ons can get into the 12's.

That's if it 1 starts, 2 has all of it's fluids, 3 hasn't had some sort of electrical failure, 4 the struts are sitting under the towers, 5 the timing chain hasn't snapped.
If all of those tests passed then you might be able to get it out of the driveway before the ball joints fall out.

If the OP wants cheap I say get a Miata and put a small turbo in it.

There's truthfully no more 'bang for buck' value than with the Talon/Laser/Eclipse first-generation Diamond Star Motors vehicles. These 2-Liter motors can handle up to 400 HP on stock internals (excluding base model). With $10K cash you could easily pick up one of these and make it faster than anything else for the money, and still be relatively fuel-efficient.

And to the dude talking about fast vs. quick... c'mon, get real. If my car goes 160mph it's going to 0-60 in 4 seconds. You don't really sacrifice acceleration for top speed or vice versa. This isn't MarioKart.
