Excel Help..

i created a spreadsheet for work and it has a column in in for dates....now instead of showing the dates it shows some numbers that dont look like a date....but if you click on the box it shows the correct date in the address bar but when you click off of it it goes back to the screwy numbers...example 39040 corresponds to november 19th, 2006.....even if i highlight the cell and try to change the format to a different date type it still puts the wierd numbers....anyone ever seen this or know how to correct it?????????

Before you do that, put in December 21, 2012 and see if your computer blows up.

You can either go to a command prompt and type FORMAT C:

or

press your colon until help arrives.

Can you give a litte more info: how did you enter the dates originally (what format mm/dd/yy, etc). Did you enter the dates then try to format the cells or the other way round?

Or you might have the cell too small for the data in it. If you shrink a cell it will show something other than what's actually entered.
