Yes, please, let's take my comment completely out of context and start applying it to commercial vehicles, cruise liners, construction equipment and the frickin' Space Shuttle while we're at it.

Never park your space shuttle in gear.
The rockets might spontaneously fire up, and if it's in gear then FWOOM, bye bye space shuttle.

Every person I know who drives a manual leaves it in gear when they park. Considering there's not always a curb available to block your tires, depending on the parking brake alone is tempting fate.

Not stepping on your toes but, all handles sticking out of the center console is a parking break. Manual or Automatic. If you are the referring to the op's situation then yes putting on the parking brake may have stopped the "emergency" at hand. The next time you are doing 60 and need to stop quickly pull the "emergency brake" see what happens.

I can't count the number of times I've come out of the 7-11 for a Slurpee stop on Neptune and my Space Shuttle was taking off at 21,000 MPH and heading to Saturn. <>

It's common knowledge that you're mocking him.

I have always parked my Jeep in gear. I do not have a parking brake but a line lock and no if the Jeep started with the line lock on it still would not have stalled the engine.
True story. A buddy of mine was trying to dignose a electircal problem with his Jeep. (93 YJ) He had it in his driveway which is very steep with the parking brake on in gear. He had the key on. The phone rang and he went to answer it. The parking brake, as soo many YJ do, let go. The Jeep started rolling down the driveway. Of Course since the key was on it started. Rolling down the driveway with him running behind it gaining speed. The Jeep ended up in his neighbors driveway, taking out a fence and a few saplings.

Oh and to OP go get some steel and make your own bumper.

Parking brake is just that...A PARKING BRAKE!...it is not a TORQUE break or engine brake now mock me mocking bird.

Parking in gear with the parking brake on WILL DO NOTHING TO STOP IT

Nobody is saying that the parking break will stop a car if it's running and you hit the gas.
