Thanks for the links. I've been wanting to find some salvage places in this state, but I didn't know where to look.

Its common knowledge you NEVER park a manual in gear.Suppose the starter engauges? The vehicle will move until the battery wears down.I've seen the result a few times, once it caused BIG damage to a building.

Also its common knowledge you don't install a remote starter in a manual car UNLESS it has this feature:
You have to engage the E-break, press the remote button, then pull the key out (engine stays running), you get out and close the door, within a time frame it will turn off the engine and be ready to remote start. If anything changes (Door opens, hood opens, break pedal pushed down) it will deactivate the remote starter function. Getting out and closeing the door before it activates will make sure it is not left in gear.

Now how was the mechanic supposed know you installed something that was UNSAFE???????

Really? Common knowledge? I've never parked either of my manual transmission automobiles in neutral. I was always taught to leave them in gear (either reverse or 1st depending on which direction I was going last) with the parking brake on.

I could be wrong, but I think the manual actually says to leave it in first...

I didnt realize men used remote starts.

edit: unless working under the hood and using one to check the compression, remote start that mounts to starter relay.

So I guess the owner's manual is wrong too.

No I wasn't disagreeing with you. The owner's manuals DOES say to park with the transmission in 1st gear with the parking brake. I guess Nonya knows better than the Jeep engineers.

you be the judge.......didn't parking this jeep in gear cause major damage and possibly could have caused major injury????? WELL????? You don't need a remote starter to engauge the starter, faulty wiring, bad starter etc is all it takes and you have a mess. The NEW dodge pickup i responded to burned a BUSINESS down because it was parked in gear, starter malfuctioned, overheated, caught fire after moving the truck into the building. HUGE fire resulted.

I love being right.
Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

And Nonya,
I'd love to know what you're talking about, but either we speak different languages or you're an idiot.
Either way, you need to pay more attention in English class.

By the way the parking brake can't hold enough torque to stop the starter in 1st gear with a fully charged battery...try it sometime.

Not the mechanic's fault, but i would have given him hell for parking my Jeep incorrectly, either way. It's called a parking brake for a reason.
