You should have made a safety switch out of the Parking/Emergency brake. Engine should be allowed to turn on if and only if the Parking/Emergency brake is set.

Apart from that, yes, this was a ID ten T error.

This whole problem would have been avoided if you wired up a safety. You really should have done that.

I think what Sharpie is saying is that you should have installed a safety, it's pretty darn easy to do, also.

If he didn't want to wire up a safety, he should have not used the remote after someone had worked on it and parked it. What he should have done was just walked up to the jeep and started it manually. That's what he should have done if he didn't want to wire up a safety.

And I was the first one to admit it and absolve the mechanic of any liability, so shut your pie hole.

Sharpie should wire up a safety switch on his pie hole.

Might just keep him from getting rear-ended by so many poles!

This is the best thread of the day.

But seriously, sorry about your Jeep though. I don't know anything about remote starters, but one would think there would be some way of wiring up some sort of safety mechanism to prevent stuff like this from happening.

Same here, my parking brake no longer works, so I have to keep it in gear to prevent it from rolling away. lol Not to mention, my Jeep starts really rough in the cold weather, so I generally have to stay in the Jeep to give it gas until it starts to run a little better.

OP you really can't blame the mechanic. You should have wired it up with a safety interlock switch, preferably something tied to a neutral switch and even added a parking brake switch so the brake has to be on and the tranny in neutral to start. Then since someone else had driven it you should have just went and started it manually in case they didn't put it in neutral, or set the brake and the safeties, if they had been wired in, had failed.

Yep could have been avoided with by wiring in a safety switch(es). So don't blame the mechanic.

So what was the point of your thread? To show us how incompetent you are? To make a subtle WTB ad? I don't understand why you'd go through the trouble. If I did something embarassing and caused damage that was clearly my fault, I wouldn't come on this site and complain about it

wife's got one on her jeep. You would have to work to get it start with the tranny in gear. When you shut it down, it senses what gear you put it in. The top would have to be off, and you put it in gear, without setting off the alarm for it to happen. Hate to hear about your ride though.

SO the main point of this thread is: if you install a remote start on your manual transmission vehicle, you should also install a safety?
