So I was kind of tickled today when I went to grab a few things from the grocery store and seen pissed off people not able to spend my hard earned money. Apparently the EBT food stamp system was down in Virginia and several other states. I even seen the man in front of me put his food back and use his cash on the beer in his cart. I bet it sucked for him to decide between wants and needs like the rest of us have to do. Boy am I glad I can depend on myself to get what I need.

Land of growing entitlements ... scr** them; the ones abusing the system or using it as a lifestyle when they're otherwise capable.

This isn't PRC, so I won't even get into my opinion about the ______ posing as leader of this country.

I just read another article that in California at a WalMart there was no limit on many of the cards so it was basically a two hour shopping spree for hundreds of people.

I agree there are some people that need the help, but when I see people use ebt for food then pull a wad of cash out of their pocket for a case of beer and 2 cartons of cigarettes it bothers me.

I see quite a few people buying chips and candy bars at the corner store with these cards, for some reason they can't buy the pre-pack sandwiches and similar food items? There is also a little convenience store in my area where the guy will enter tobacco purchases as food items for EBT card holders, I have seen him do it for lotto tickets too. He simply totals the purchase as a food sale to get the EBT card to work. He has not been caught yet. There is some technicality where these small gas station places use a word like "food" in the business name, this allows them to accept these cards I think?

There was an organized crime sting not too far away that also involved an elaborate EBT fraud scheme. It was found that these cards have been allowed to be used inside Casinos, tittie bars and night clubs, really!!! WTF? Some stores were basically debiting EBT cards for alcohol and tobacco purchases. At least one of the stores was debiting the card for more money than the purchase of illegal goods, for example he sold $15 in tobacco and charged $25 in food purchases to the EBT

The problem around here is once some people get on it then it becomes a reason not to find legitimate work. They will get all this "assistance" while working under the table for someone. I mean if you have the newest I phone, driving a new car, and have cash for your vices whatever they may be then you don't need an ebt card.

I like how it's been described as "normal human reaction' to steal everything you can until you might get caught, then run away. I'd guess besides the amount of $/labor involved in putting an entire store back on the shelves a substantial amount won't be sellable by the time an employee gets to it. So returned to the manufacturer for credit that they will then have to lose more $ on etc. And of course all the stuff that went out the door before it was shut down is just 'free' until the bill shows up in my mailbox. Quality thought process there.

I had an EBT card back in the day... I used like $15 of it within a 6 month period. I bought some food at a Fry's one day, that was it.
