ebay
I have a problem and i need some advice:
I bid on a shirt, and didn't think i won so i bid on another shirt, and then realized that i won the first one. Is there any way to contact the seller and is there any hope that he / she will only charge me for the one, and just "re-sell" the other one? They are the exact same shirt from the same seller. Otherwise i am out $50 ![]()

You can try to ask them to let you out of one of the auctions, it's worth a shot. At the very least ask for them to combine shipping.

my brother in law just went through this very thing only with a boat, fortunately he didn't win the first one but was the leader till the end. I've been on Ebay for 8 years and you can get out of a sale but it's extremly hard to do. They have a section on their site for this, check the site map. My suggestion is to just buy the first one and resell it.

Did you win the second auction too? If not, can't you just retract the bid on the second shirt (assuming it's still an active auction), citing the fact that you won the previous auction as the reason to retract the bid?

I did that once, by accident. Contacted the seller, and he got rid of the bid on the second item, since I won the same item minutes before. Depends on the seller, I suppose.

Something that needs to be taken into account here is that when the seller listed the shirt, eBay charged him a fee. He has to pay that fee even if no one bids on the item. Since the item sold, he also has to pay a percentage of the final value. Technically, he can file with eBay, asking that they waive the final value fee because you backed out of the aggreement to purchase. But this is a big hassel and not good for you.
At a minimum, you should pay the listing and final value fees. You can ask if this is acceptable if you don't want both shirts. If this were my auction though, I'd be pissed. If you don't buy the shirt, he's going to have to start the auction again and wait several days for results. |
