driving on the beach
Hi,
I'm going to the Outer banks this summer and planning on taking my 4 door on the beach ( a lot). What do I need to know about driving on sand? I have never driven on sand before. Thanks,

On the dunes in MI, we just would air down our tires. But there are some pretty steep hills so I would say it depends on what kind of driving you are going to do

For the outer banks you want to run 15PSI or less (but keep it above 5-6 so you don't throw a bead) for the most part the lower the pressure the better on sand. If you feel yourself starting to bog down, stop and back up in your tracks and try again at a different path. Carry a jack capable of lifting your rig, a sheet of plywood big enough to set the jack on and a shovel is PRICELESS!!!! Drive steady and have fun. MOST IMPORTANT is stay out of the water and wash your riug once you can (the salt air, sand, and salt water will trash your rig) greese everything first chance you get after and you'll be fine.

seeing as you said a 4door, im assuming its a jk, it better be 4x4, don't even attempt those beaches with a 4x2, i saw a f250 get stuck w/ 40's in 2wd out there
and x2 on what fred99tj, said pretty much covers it! i plan to make it out there for at least a week or two this summer with my jeep to have fun!
