You do know that's a commercial and not an actual accident?

There are alot of things people shouldn't do while they drive, texting is just another thing to blame accidents on. Driving with ones head up their butt is still a pretty big cause of accidents. Not paying attention is not paying attention, no matter what the distraction is...texting, eating, reading a book, looking for a cd, yelling at the kids in the back seat........

And that makes a difference? Commercial or not it still points out how dangerous it is when you don't focus on driving when you are behind the wheel.

That's why I pointed out there are alot more things you shouldn't be doing while driving...not just texting.

I noticed that after I posted, it said in the title of the video it was a PSA.

Honestly, and it's unfortunate, the only way to get to some people is to show them something shocking like this to get their attention. Even then some don't get it and still drive around in their own little worlds because they think, "It won't happen to me". I also don't find it a coincidence that they used teen girls. When I drive to work and I'm being tailgated, it's usually a young girl in a small car with a phone in her hands or to her ear. When I see a car flying by me in a hurry cutting me off or swerving out of their lane nearly side swipping me, it's the same thing, a young girl. I'm sure teen boys are guilty of similar things, but the more I pay attention to how bad people drive the more I see it's usually teen girls who are obviously more worried about everything else but actually driving.

What bothers me the most is my oldest son is 16 and he isn't even allowed to have his phone out of his pocket when he's driving. He only has his permit and won't get his liscense until February (IL law of drivers safty course + 9 months & 50 hours of driving). Everytime we go out, I try to stress over and over all the issues I see and he takes notice, but when he's alone I just have to hope what I've taught him keeps him alive. But that says nothing for the other numbnuts on the road that don't care or weren't taught correctly.

I started driving when I was 15, I'm 19 now, my parents didnt let me have a phone capable of more than emergency calls or any friends in the car till i turned 17 and I had my license for a full year, I have never been in a wreck and never text or even answer calls while driving, and for that I'll guarantee that I'm a better driver than 99.9% of people my age.

Teaching new drivers to be on the look out for the other guy....the guy who's not looking for you, is some pretty good advice. Defensive driving seems to be the key these days...way too many people not paying attention to what's going on around them, and trying to save 2 minutes of time, regardless to the consequences. It's pretty sad really.

^x2 I was taught to drive the car the same way you are taught to ride a motorcycle, drive like everyone on the road is trying to kill you

I try to only text at red lights but I do sometimes fire a quick one off while going down the road. The girl in the video was doing nothing but starring at her phone. Now im not saying driving and texting is ok or defending it in anyway but it shouldnt take but a second to send a text. Anything more than that and your seriously putting your self at risk

I've used those exact words myself. I assume everyone is an idiot and is out to knock me off my bike.

That is one thing I do when we drive though, I call out what I think someone is going to do, predict if you will. It's actually entertaining, example, You see someone getting close to someone about 2 or three cars up. As you start to get closer you notice them looking over in their mirror, I assume they are coming over if they see me or not and I'll say, "She's coming over in 3...2...1" and I'll be right. Or I'll notice someone on the phone and I'll say whatch for the swerve, they aren't paying attention, bam off the side of the road with a jerk back and nearly loses it.

It kind of makes it fun and he enjoys it, plus it makes looking out for other idiots part of the teaching. I personally learned to drive in a field at 14 in an old datsun truck with a stick shift. By the time I turned 16 and got my license I was driving very well and since I grew up riding motorcycles that instinct of watching out around me was already there. 36 now, no accidents, 1 ticket (on the interstate driving 15 over with the flow of traffic)

I always wonder why people feel the need to text at all....I hate it. It's a phone, talk to them for pete's sake...it's hands free!

I use it from time to time, for instance, sometimes when I'm getting ready to leave work in the morning, I'll text the wife before I leave the parking lot and see if she is horny...if she's still alseep it doesn't wake her up, if she's getting up and getting ready for work, she will hurry and be waiting

Plus it's more exciting than me calling...it's like we are being bad
