~ Do you SCUBA? ~

I've been diving for 42 years. My two oldest kids were certified divers at age twelve.
I've been diving in a lot of places, on wrecks, in caves, at night, on the edge of underwater cliffs that are a thousand feet deep, in underwater canyons, in freshwater lakes and rivers, and in lava tubes.
Not one bad experience or incident.
The closest I ever came to an incident was diving in a lava tube off the north shore of Kauai, and cornered a sleeping shark. (they have to sleep in a place with strong current to keep the water moving across their "gills"). I made a quick u-turn and left him alone.

All my pics of diving are on photos that I have not scanned yet.

If you have any great dive pics, or good stories, let's see/hear them.

If you scuba, you know it's a different world down there.

Yep. I got certified in 2004. In fact, I am going to be taking the dry suit cert this winter so that I can dive in Alaska next May.

I got certified about 18 months ago. Until a month ago, I hadn't been diving since, even tho I'd been to San Diego/Orange County probably 5 times in that time period :( Wife got certified with me, but we haven't been diving together since our open water cert.

I've been 3 more times in the last month; twice to a little reservoir that had terrible visibility, but high probability of a rescue/recovery (I'm in S&R and I'm supposed to be working on a recovery cert) and once in a large lake at night. It felt really good to get back into the water :) I'm hoping the wife and I can sneak away to the Caribbean next spring for a week and do some diving...

31 years for me. Most of my diving now is on deep wrecks (200' - 400') or caves. It is the most liberating experience I have ever felt.

Not since my certification in 2005 :( Just not enough places to go that are close to justify the money spent on gear.

You don't have to purchase the gear. You can rent it at the diving location.

I have been diving for about 6 years. I haven't been in about 2 years because I just can't find the time. I guess I have just too many hobbies and work too much. I live on the Gulf Coast and can never find time to get wet. I want to get my g/f certified so maybe she will want to go which will give me an excuse to get back in. I bought a $700 spear gun 2 years ago and have only used it once.

I got certified at college ( 1 hr course ftw! ) Ever since though I havent been diving. Land locked and no vacation time sucks. I really want to get back into it, it was so much fun

Do people dive Tahoe? That's still the most amazing blue water I've ever seen

You should see it from the air around lunch time when the sun is overhead.
You can see almost all the bottom of the lake.

I dove at Lake Havasu to get some fish for dinner with my Hawaiian Sling.
Good eats.

Seems like Tahoe would have some good spear fishing. Check with the game warden to see if it's legal tho'.

A friend of mine went diving with the manatees in Florida. the pics he took were great.
Another friend went diving in the Red Sea. I guess the diving there is supposed to be the best in the world. His pics were amazing too.

I want to dive in Phuket Thailand and also Truk Lagoon in Fiji. I see the pics in the dive magazines and it look's awesome.

Nothing funnier than seeing my skinny 12 year old kids trying to get in and out of the water in the waves at Diver's Cove in Laguna Beach.
All that gear on a little kid. The were troopers tho'.
My daughter was first, so my son could not be outdone by her.

I went diving with my son just after he got certified. We flew over to Kauai and dove off a dive boat in the sea turtle breeding area.
He latched on to a big sea turtle and rode it around. It headed for the surface after a bit for a big gulp of air, and then started to dive deep. I warned him ahead of time to let go immediately if they go any deeper than thirty feet, because they are trying to get rid of you and will dive to the bottom of the ocean to do it.
I had hired a girl to video our dive. I'll have to get that up on youtuve.
We also found a huge cliff that had hundreds of Morrey eels. You can swim right up to them and pet them, as long as you keep your fingers together. If your hand is open, it thinks your hand is an octopuss and will bite. It's like a dog bite with smaller teeth. I'll load that video too.

yup.......

Slenny 09-08-2009 05:53 PM

I always wanted to go diving, I just can't swim that well.

abnormal 09-08-2009 05:56 PM

You dont have to know how to swim really. When I got my cert I was in okinawa japan and one of the guys in the class didnt know how to swim that good. He was one of the better ones at moving around under water.
