Deer Hunting
Im looking to get into deer hunting this year. I did my hunters safety a few years back. We have quite a few rifles, because my father used to hunt.
I need a scope though, and I dont really know what to look for in a scope. What are some decent brands. I dont want to break the bank, but I dont want some KMart blue light special bull****. What do you recommend for a beginner, and do you have any tips? Thanks

I use a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9 x 40 on all of my rifles. They are relatively cheap for what you get....I paid around $100 for them on ebay from a private seller...not a store. Great light in twilight conditions.
There are many good brands of scopes. Depending upon how far you are shooting will decide what type of scope you need. Adjustable scopes are great but to tell you the truth I always shoot on 4 power so I could probably get away with just a 4 power scope. Whatever scope you get make sure you site it in from different distances. I usually start at 50 yards and go up 25 yard increments until I reach 200 yards with tight grouping. I usually can't hit and don't hunt places where the shot is over 200 yards so this is where I stop. There are people who can accurately shoot and hit over 200 yards, you might be one of them, so site up to the longest shot you can hit. Practice, practice, practice. If it's your first time hunting most likely you will be able to hit at 200 yards all day when practicing at your range but when you see a 200 pound 10 point your scope will be moving all over the place while you are freaking out....so again....practice....make sure you adjust for your breathing and SQUEEZE the trigger....don't PULL it....

Words of wisdom buy a cheap rifle and an expensive scope.Since u already have a gun you should be able to spend a little more on the scope. When u sight your rifle in during the daytime hours u wont notice much difference in a cheapie vs. a good scope but when u are trying to find that buck in the fading light or trying to find that buck when u are looking into the sunrise the difference in scopes is like night vs. day.Leaupold and nikon 300-500 dollar range would be my first choice with a swift coming in third.Top of the line bushnells and weavers are good.Scopes to stay away from would be bout anything less then 150dollars. Bsa=junk
