have you seen the one that the Brittish (I believe) guy put a modified GSX-R1000 engine making 180+hp into. Now that I would drive.

I can't help but think that a Wrangler hybrid, albeit more expensive, would get better gas mileage than even a 2.4L SE.
I'm not an automotive expert. However, its a fairly simple observation to make that vehicles that weigh more, drive off road, or carry heavy loads need more power. Unfortunately, the most fuel efficient engines out there don't provide enough power for our current stock of heavy SUVs and trucks. Perhaps DC/Jeep could design a new, lighter vehicle that would be adequetely powered by a small, fuel efficient engine. Or, was that what the Suzuki Samauri was supposed to be?
At any rate, my hope is that automotive science and engineering will come up with a way to improve gas mileage while maintaining size and power.

the technology is available IMO, its just not applied.

the big drawback to me on a hybrid will be maintaining them. I can do about anything I need to the Jeep in the driveway. If they build a hybrid jeep I'd hate to think of the cost of maintaining one. No more home repairs for the avg joe like me.

Yep, I got in the SEMA mag , 2 months ago. They take a fully loaded V6 Camry and that Prius and compare them. in a 4 or 3 year period (cant remember exactly) you would save $81, From Maintained to Gas with the overall price of the MSRP intacked! Don't sound like a better deal to me I would rather ride in style to save $81
My 2 cents

whoever said the e-85 gets less mpg is wrong...I used it allthe time when I had my 3.0 ranger and got better mpg and save almost half on fuel price..I dont understand why all car co. arent forced to make all cars able to take both fuels like the ones that are out there now..It didnt reflect in the price when I bought it so it cant be that big of a mod to the engines.

Oh, Canada... I don't know if the smart car is street legal in America...anyone know different? I was in Europe this summer and they are EVERYWHERE....outnumbered only by scooters on the streets of Paris, Rome, etc. You doubletake when you see anything bigger than a mini cooper, especially in Rome. They make a lot of sense, but I'd feel a little vulnerable sharing the road with H2's in that thing...when everything else on the road is a scooter, I'd feel fine.

nevermind the Hummers, what about the 18 wheelers when the driver's been going for 18 hours speeding his face off? sheesh, even a sober guy behind the 18 wheeler. they complain now about small cars not being visible when they change lanes.

I wouldnt be caught dead in one of those things, although dead and hacked into lots of pieces would be about the only way I would fit in it Here is a Crash test video I found of those things, they have it running head on into another car.

YES!! trip out. I like BMW ones...the driver's under the top, but the passenger has to sit behind the top like they're sitting on the trunk...

Car dealers are getting rich of the idiots that are trading in their expensive SUV for a cheap crap econo box car. They are giving them NOTHING for their trade, then resell it for a killing. I talked to a saleman at a dealerhship the other day and he was laughing his a$$ off about it.

must be a bunch of idiots out there then because I sure wouldn't be buying any gas guzzler, now matter how luxurious it was, unless the deal was too good to pass up (which you know doesn't happen on dealer lots). Buying a gas guzzler today should be a buyer's market with dealers trying to unload them.

Ha! It looks like George Washington is getting mad.
I heard on the news that some local dealers won't take SUV's as trade-ins because nobody wants them and they just sit on the lot.
