Everytime you post up another bit of your trip my heart does a flip-flop ... I would prefer to be drivin' with ya instead of sitting here in my cave at work watching the updates!

Andy, I think I’m a little sensitive on the topic becuase I realize that driving 50,000kms solo in a not-so-fuel-efficient vehcile is not a very environmentally friendly thing to do. It’s something I still don’t feel at ease with about my journey & I know it will inspire me to do something different next time around.
Dan, I can't think of too many other vehicles that would have taken you as far as you've gone and as many places as you've gone. I think you picked the right one.

That's a good point, she certainly has let me go places others' simply can't go.

I caught a 16 hour ferry across to mainland Mexico...

Nice Dan - I was wondering if you were gonna take a ferry or drive all the way back up Baja.

I bet all that green is a nice sight after dusty Baja.

I really have no idea, but probably not. I imagine I'll be ready to do something else by then. I'll find a country that lets me sell the Jeep and fly elsewhere.

My home right now is literally the Jeep - I have no other possessions or anywhere to go back to.

Dude, You couldn't sell you Jeep after all she has brought you through!

I think you can rest assured that you are in an environmentally friendly vehicle (i'll post the link to the report later) that says your Jeep is in the top 5 of that category. Perhaps not in gas mileage, but when everything is added up like materials, plant emissions, people hours, the hours those people drive to work, how much of it is recyclable, the expected lifespan of vehicle, and even how cheap maintenance and replacement parts are you come out on top! The prius is one of the worst vehicles and I bet you'll be hard pressed to find any part for a prius on your SA journey. The Jeep is so rock solid, any one with some mechanical knowledge could probably get it back on the road.

Please Keep the Jeep! Hell, you sh ould e-mail mobile one or amsoil and see if they will sponsor the "fluids" for your trip, after all, not everyone gets to do an real life test like this. I think you should get a sponsor like amsoil and do a test and let them fill it all up with their fluid and see if it will bring you back home. If not, they will pay for the repairs!

The Jeep is definitely a very good vehicle for the trip, no doubt about that. It's really just the gas mileage that is bugging me. I'll come up with a solution before my next adventure.

I won't be living anywhere in North America/Central America/South America after this trip, so keeping the Jeep is really not possible anyway. I'd have to ship it overseas and I don't want to deal with that.

I intentionally don't want sponsors for this adventure - I want this to be within the grasp of every single person so I don't want to do anything 'special'
I'm just a guy, with no special training, not much money, who wants to follow his dreams. That is the message I want to send to others.

Dude that sucks, but I dont blame the one cop for putting his hand on his weapon when you walked behind him. I wouldn't have let you walk behind me if I were him.

Typical. That's just one reason Mexico is becoming a no go zone for tourists. At least you and your buddies are okay.
