You're lucky you're not out here in California. A clear cut DUI out here cost a old college buddy of mine over 5 grand in legal fees, court fees, fines and DUI class fees... and that's all without a lawyer, plus he got a 6 month restricted license. Even if you don't blow over the legal limit for a DUI, you can still get charged out here(forgot what the exact law was).

I'd say get a lawyer, he/she might help you get any fines and stuff reduced because I'm sure in most states a DUI will run way more than what layer feees would cost.

I got to go with Balloo93 on this one. Be glad you didn't get it in TX. That 1st timer BS dont mean squat. If you take it to court, you lose your DL. If you refuse the Breathalizer, you lose your DL. Get a Lawyer. Pay the fines. Be glad your on a jeepsite full of soft panzies who aren't going to ream you every which way from Sunday. Good Luck

Every state is different, NJ it's mandatory loss of license first offense, fines and an insurance surcharge. And I think time in something called an Intoxicated Drivers Resource center.Refuse to take the test, automatic 6 mo revocation, and they video tape you so if your staggering, can't recite the alphabet, etc. you can still get convicted. Lawyer or no Lawyer it's all just mandatory. NJ has no work license or anything like that so you ride the bus or bicycle. What's the minimum in your state? That's basically what you'll get although you can shop around for lawyers see what they say. Do you have any friends that got DUI's? Ask them what happened to them. I'm not going to throw rocks at you, I got a couple DUI's myself, last one over 20yrs ago. Back then things were a little different, they'd let people slide sometimes but MADD, and all the publicity times have changed.

It's a good thing you didn't have a CDL, ANY detectable amount is an automatic trip to jail, licence suspension and your record ruined for the next 10 years, even if you were driving a Vespa when it happened. (stern voice) I hope you have learned a very important lesson.

What determines that someone is drunk? .08 or .10? i have seen people who blow .08 stumble and fall and cannot stand up. i ahve seen others blow a .20 and you would nto they were intoxicated but could carry themsleves much better.

Can you tell me why him being in a state that has a .08 legal limit makes him so much more drunk and putting so much more people at risk then if he had been in a state that says .10 is legal? Why can a state make the difference and determine you are "more" drunk. YOU DID!!!

People make mistakes. Hell if we were all perfect the world would be a pretty boring place huh?
THe guy understands he screwed up and is taking it very serious. Thats good.

RubiconSS put it the best. For your first offense you will more then likely be contacted by the DA and be offered a plea bargain. Plead guilty and attend diversion classes and loose your lisence for 90 days and it will be exponged off your record if no further violations for a year. make sure after the year you go back and get it taken care of and follow through on the expongment(is that a word?)

A.) it's Pansy

B.) there's no point in reaming him, he made a mistake, he admited he was wrong, you don't know him, he didn't hurt you...enough with the "what-if's" "what if he hurt this person, what if he crashed into this other person"

DIid he?
NO.
Is it the past?
YES.

he asked if he needed a lawyer, he didn't ask to be scolded by people ON THE INTERNET who act like they're the direct offspring of God himself

I knew a kid that got arrested for obstruction of justice, he ended up spending a good bit of money on the lawyer. All the lawyer did was get him signed up for ARD which is a bargin plea type deal where you have to take classes, in his case anger management. The problem is he could have asked for ARD from the bat and would have had the same out come. I know this is a different case but I just wanted to let you know that unless you think you can beat the charges, which a DUI with proof is next to impossible.... I'd recommend you put on a sympathetic additude and just ask for ARD or the equivalent. Cause seriously unless you can make this an issue of racial profiling and get a high priced lawer, save you money and just take the charges....

I didnt ream him one bit, though I'm sure you know what a good reaming is all about I advised him to seek a lawyer, just like he asked. And trust me, I didnt come here to make friends with pukes like you that get their panties in a knot because someone says something that doesn't set well with them.

Grow up, spend some time in the real world, and get back to me. Now run along, I'm sure you got school or some party to go to.

I remember this on the news, a judge was throwing out DUI cases claiming them to be unconstitutional. http://www.duiblog.com/2005/08/12

Anyways - DUI is somethng you'll want all the help you can get with, It'll cost you, and theres no gaurantee the lawyer will lower your sentence, but its definately worth chancing in my opinion, gl.

Just for the record 01grenader is 20 years old... You can't even legally drink yet, so just don't even comment on the subject.

I would suggest getting a lawyer man. Better to try everything then find out later down the road a lawyer could have helped you keep your license and stay out of jail. Here in Delaware first offence gets your licensed revoked automatically.

In most states you will get your license suspended on a first time offense, not revoked. There is a difference. Anyway, with the suspension, you will usually be able to get a restricted license that allows you to drive to and from work/school. The restricted license is usually part of the ASAP program.

I've seen several DUI charges in Georgia reduced to reckless driving with the assistance of a lawyer. I've also seen DUI charges not reduced when the offender does not have a lawyer. I am not saying a lawyer will get your charges reduced, but he or she will have a better chance negotiating with the solicitor than you will alone.

Where in Georgia did you get your DUI?
