Jay, any updates on the business plan?

I got some helpers if you have not already hired people. Dont skimp on your site, appearing to be a large professional, well run business is a whole hell of a lot easier to do online than it is with a 'brick & mortar' business so use that to your advantage as much as possible.

Thread from the dead!!!

So that Seagate 500GB HD that I purchased has the now-infamous 7200.11 firmware bug - BSY error. Yay!

This issue was going around at my time of purchase (Jan 09). Had I done some searching, I would have gone with a different HD. I'm surprised it lasted this long.

Found some hopeful ways to get it back to life, via a Nokia CA-42 cable. Gonna try that trick as soon as it comes in the mail.

Luckily I back up. All I'm out is a few iTunes songs and some test photos. Seagate does cover this problem, however I still don't trust my data going off in the mail.

I had the EXACT same problem awhile back.

I sent the drive off to California and got it back within a week. No problems and no cost from my end. I would recommend it. I just popped it back in and booted up without any issues as if it never failed to begin with.

I recall buying the same hard drive as both of you. No problems with it so far, but it is no longer my primary drive. Booting from RAID 0'd OCZ Vertex 30GB SSDs now.

I will keep my eye open for problems though. What happens when it goes kaput? Any warning signs?

I saw/heard no signs. Just didn't start up a few days ago. Spins, but not recognized. If you've got one of these HDs, I would download the newest firmware ASAP.

If you can do a firmware update, do it now. It's a matter of time otherwise, and it shows no warning signs. I turned mine off, booted it up, and windows froze and bam - it bricked itself. It's a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. Luckily if it does happen it's a free and easy fix, but you'll be out of a drive for about a week if you need to send it off to Seagate.

I couldn't even initialize and format my 1.5TB's before doing the firmware update.

Performed the cell phone cable trick and issued commands via HyperTerminal. (LOL). Installed new firmware and back to normal. Took the time to do some much needed cleaning and dust removal.
