I have only had two times that I was really frightened and thought my life was in danger. The first time I had just turned 16 and went to my buddies house to spend the night. He lives between two high ridges on White oak mountain in the White Oak Valley. On one side of the road is his house and on the other side is his grandparents. For years since we were in diapers his grandparents have told us these "stories" of wild black panthers in the mountains. Yeah ok old timer we live in Cleveland freakin Tennessee. That does not happen here....
Well I pulled up to his house and its in the winter so prob around 9 P.M. and he says, "Hey lets go shoot pool at my grandparents." I say ok and me mosey on. As soon as my feet hit the road to cross I hear this God awful blood curling scream. Not human at all. The hair on my neck still stands up thinking about it to this day. Now I was an excellent runner in high school cross country and track. I guarantee you I would have broken world records. We were in that house with doors locked before my feet ever hit the ground. We described it to his grandfather who armed us to the teeth and got his spot lights. He shinned it on the far ridge and without leaves on the trees we spotted it. It really was a dang cat. Not your normal house cat. I mean about 9-10 feet long and bigger than any deer I've ever killed. It really did look like a mountain lion. That monster looked straight in our light, threw its ears back, screamed again and hauled booty over the other side of the ridge. That was by far the scariest thing ever. We would not even walk back across the street. He drove us the entire 150 yards. lol The other time I was doing a nite mountain bike ride on Chilhowie mountain with some high school friends and wrestling coaches. We ended up doing a hard trail that is rarely ridden when my coach in front stops. He wanted a sip of water and before we took off we all felt like we were being watched. It was eerie. Now we each had about 800 dollars worth of lighting on the front of our bikes and helmets so we surveyed the area. LOL one of my friends let out a shriek like a small girl! Turns out there was a man in camo pointing an assault rifle directly at us! My coach in an adrenaline filled rage grabbed a decent sized log and chunked it at the guy. That was a mistake. Before we knew it the 6 of us were surrounded by these gun weilding fiends. We all just threw our hands up thinking we were dead. The one that had the log thrown at him was cussing up a storm at us. Then my coach tore into him and we almost had a brawl on our hands. Turns out the U.S. Army sends troops from Fort Benning up there at night for Land Nav. We "interrupted" their training and that was our fault because apparently its not "normal" to ride a bike at night. That was pretty intense as well...

Lol yeah. The log hit the ground then bounced into the guys shin. It was insane really. They were all privates except one who took control and calmed everyone down. I seriously thought that was going to be where I died. Everyone was completely still untill that one fella popped up. We thought he was the only one there. The had no idea they were on a trail. It reminds me of that navy commercial where its black, then footprints, then the ocean washes the footprints away. Our boys are pretty dang good at what they do, they just didn't count on a bunch of paranoid rednecks bustin up their party. lol

had the same problem at my Gfs the other night. Her dog was acting weird and to top it off the next morning there was a small fire in her fire pit that we didnt start. Talk about creepy.

I'm a cop so I'm a tad bit paranoid from time to time. I have a five year old German Shepherd who is very intuitive and protective. If he isn't rattled, neither am I.
On the other hand, two of my cats have this tendency to stare at a corner of a room for minutes on end, like there is something there. Creeps me out. My dad was a copper before he was killed on the job. He was the marshal of a small community. One night back in the 80's he got a call from an elderly woman who lived just outside of town. It was like 3 in the morning. She told him that an alien was standing next to her and demanded to talk with someone in charge. Dad said he heard some rustling and some noises he couldn't really explain. He figured she was sick and went out there to check on her. She wouldn't answer the door. He finally forced the door and found her sound asleep. Claimed she never called. She told him her phone had been disconnected for two months because she couldn't afford to pay it. Weird.

Hate nights like that. Creepy feelings suck. If I'm in the woods all alone, I get that feeling no matter what. Hoorah for group trail rides! Luckily, I'm only 16 and still live with my parents. Dad usually gets up if he hears something. One upside of sleeping like a log... sounds don't wake up logs. Nothing does. I can sleep through fire alarms and all
