And that's why you don't take your K-pot off until you're safely back at camp.

I wouldn't quite call it amazing... just lucky. I've read dozens of stories where people have had all sorts of sharp objects jammed into their head or torso without doing any major damage (aside from blood loss obviously).

A soldier went to a site where a bomb exploded. There was Iraqi police there and the soldiers talked to them about it and all. The US troops walked away after they were done talking and one of the soldiers got a 9" knife stuck right into the side of his head. It justed missed hitting his brain. He lost 40% of his blood and was still able to talk to doctors and do everything with the 9" blade still stuck in his head. He is now fine but survived a horrible attack and is glad he is alive and can still enjoy time with his family.

pretty much sums it up.

Ouch, yeah that is messed up. So, did the IP stab him or what? For the record I've got some wonderful stories about IP's around where I am in southern Iraq, stupid freaks. The Iraqi Army, Iraqi Highway Patrol, and the Tribal Rapid Entry Forces are pretty squared away, but I don't have much good to say about the Iraqi Police.

An X-ray revealed that the knife entered just below Powers’ helmet, above his cheekbone, “skating right along the base of the cavity we call the temporal fossa, where the temporal lobe of your brain lives,” Teff said. It also penetrated his cavernous sinus, where a bundle of veins supply blood to the brain’s right side.

Wow, I guess I should pick up the Army Times every once in a while. Unfortunately, I get most of my news through internet boards, INTSUMS, or AFN in the DFAC. That is pretty crazy.

Amazing, to me, is when something you don't expect to happen, happens. Not the other way around, which this instance is. Like Pulp Fiction when Jules and Vincent get unloaded on with the revolver and nothing happens. You call it a miracle/divine intervention/whatever, I call it dumb luck.

I only watched the video so I didn't see that part. In any case, his helmet was either improperly fitted (unlikely) or it was an extremely lucky shot because with the power it would take to force a knife that long into his skull that far from such an angle would drastically reduce the accuracy needed to pull that off. Not to mention that no one heard some crazy dude running up behind them to attempt it.
