Cooking "japanese" food

So, I have been looking at asian food a lot lately as it is generally healthier than american food and they tend to take more time to actually make food and it tends to be more interesting. Or i am just burnt out on american home made cooking.

Anyway since most of the time japanese food is healthier and I am changing eating habits. I decided to look up how to cook more asian foods. After finding site after site after site after site that makes everything complicated. At least it was complicated to me since I don't cook a lot, mostly hamburger helper and hot dogs. I found a site that is for making japanese lunches and they post pretty much everyday. I decided I was going to take the plunge and try a few things. Well today I decided to spend the day cooking several things off of the site and all i have to say is everything was awesome.

Oh the site is http://www.justbento.com and sister site http://www.justhungry.com

I am soooo full right now and have eaten several great dishes.

Here is what I made today as they looked to the simplest to make and they were. It took me a lot more time than they said, but that is because I am not in the kitchen a lot.

Pan-fried lemon chicken nuggets I only wish i had made more.
Bacon wrapped Tofu Bento - I use chicken instead of tofu
Chicken Teriyaki (lunch) - tamagoyaki is basically an omlet just shaped.

Anyway I am excited about finding these sites and everything tasting good at my first try cooking. Just thought I would pass it on to others. I am going to start using this site for making lunches to save money.

Keep in mind that the healthy-ness of Asian food also comes from the fact that their portions when eating are far smaller than the typical American's.

Most definitely is a major factor. I have severely cut back on my portions in the last few weeks in general, except today.

If I could afford it, I'd eat nothing but salmon skin hand rolls and Nigori sake.

What if it looks Japanese but isn't healthy?

I'm a huge fan of the Hawaiian originated SPAM Musubi!

The Japanese, while good at copying and in some aspects improving on American pragmatism would not have a clue on how to improve on Hormel's food product.

Oddly SPAM helped feed the US armed forces in the Pacific that ultimately defeated Japan's pacific quest.

The only thing better than Spam is bacon!

Careful with the soy sauce. That stuff is loaded up with a ridiculous amount of sodium.

There's five sushi buffets in Davis And that's not counting the Japanese restaurants that don't have a buffet.

I love Japanese food, but I can only eat it once a week. I am much more a fan of tempura, teriyaki, teppanyaki, and gyoza than sushi though

MMMMMMM tempura.

Brings back memories of when I was stationed in Japan.

I am getting old.

There are three in the vicinity of 2nd and G. But your dad's probably talking about Fujis, since Jusco is awful, and Davis Sushi Buffet (which is the best of all three) just opened.
