computer problem.

ok my other computer that has windows XP is all messed up. i dont really know anything about computers besides google and JF, so heres the problem.

yesterday my computer would start up but then say it couldint initialize memmory and some other crap, so a few tries later it gets to the log in screen only its the log in screen from 6 months ago with the password from 6 months ago. is there a way to go back like a week or somthing before this got all messed up, on another computer i had it had gateway go back which let you go back a month. is there somthing like that i can use to get my system to go back?

oh yea and once i got in i sent an error report to windows and it directed me to a patch which in installed, it works now but i get a "preparing to install" message every time i open up a page or somthing. and lots of other stuff is weird, like it says i dont have a sound device and lots of other stuff.

help!!!!

this 14yo can help

1. click start
2. mouse over all programs
3. go all the up to accessories
4. mouse over system tools
5. click system restore
6. follow instructions.

use the calendar to go back to an earlier date. go back 2 or 3 months and it should fix your problems with the pop up installer. if it doesnt, you can go to all progams, then start up, then delete anything in there that you dont want to automatically start. dont worry, it wont take the program away. try these and get back to me.

That's weird...because you would have to do that through BIOS... Check for viruses.

Actually a change in the bios is not needed for windows 2k, or xp. The boot.ini controls what drive and or partition that the system boots from. If there is a prior install of say xp on the master hard drive along with another install on say the slave one, one could accidently goof up and or delete the boot.ini from the master and it would switch back to it.

In other words, that is the only realistic reason I can come up with besides Windows sucks.
